They're wicked stiff at first but after a few times, they loosen up pretty well and turn easily.

Question for you if you know. It’s fine if you don’t.

Is it safe to say that the internal max compression bumper makes the rod about 1” showing at full compression… Have you noticed?

I slide the exterior shock rod bump up the rod to the shock housing to see how far it slides down during a trip and it looks about 1” from where it ends to shock rod plate at the lower eye…thoughts?

I'm not sure what you mean by the exterior shock rod bump.

that little 5/8” thick rubber bushing that slides on the exposed shaft

    Whole lotta stuff
That's just how far your shock compressed while driving. When cycling the suspension it's normal to have 0.5"-1.0" of shaft left at full bump. That's how most people setup their shocks so that it doesn't bottom out at full compression. That rubber bump on the shaft is only really there as a fail safe.

    Gotcha.
What he said. I set mine up so there's about 1/2" of shaft exposed at full bump

Bump stop length should determine this as well, and be long enough to hit frame before shock does.

cool, thanks. It never goes less than 1-1.2” of shaft showing. My airbags (even deflated to 5 psi) have an internal bump stop that prevents bottom out

    Lots of expensive shit
It's likely your air bags are limiting the uptravel. The shock will compress to no shaft showing, there is nothing internally that limits the shocks uptravel. The rod end will go all the way to the seal head without the rubber shaft bump.

really? Interesting. I guess that’s good if I ever full-send. The airbags aren’t connected to the axle, I have cradles so they can move in and out.

the airbags do have an internal bump stop, but with it I achieve 1” of rod showing on full compress

Going to pull my front coil overs for some maintenance in a few weeks. There is some corrosion on my top mount studs/nuts would like to change them out too. I can’t find any info on what thread pitch the studs and nuts are. Looks like two different thread pitch on where they mount into the shock top hat vs. the pitch where the nuts thread on to the stud. Any info on the specs would be appreciated thanks. Circled in this pic what I am looking for.

They are likely pressed in studs, not just a regular bolt you find at the hardware store. Did you contact ADS about this first?

They're 3/8. Shock side is standard and nut side is fine thread. I just swapped them for bolts.

Hi all, wondering if anyone here can help me source resi brackets for older 2.5 coilovers for 2nd gens. I'm contacting retailers too, but I started by emailing one (doh) so I want to give him time to reply before I call him or start pestering others. Thought I'd throw it out here too, in case anybody has these parts sitting around, because I'm impatient I guess.

Problem: I decided to swap in some used ADS coilovers... got them rebuilt... set the preload... then realized I don't have an easy way to mount the resis:

    20230112_111846_resized.jpg

    Crap!

I don't trust this solution to work on the trail, and I don't have time to fab something before the next trip, which starts... two hours ago.

But in hopes of making it easier to eventually install these, I am seeking these brackets:

    need these.jpg

    need these.jpg

These are the only style I can find in pictures that I'm confident will work with my front bumper, at least without a bunch of cutting and welding. I have better things to weld, if I ever get around to it, so I'm hoping to track down a pair of these brackets.

    Thanks!

You're going to run into problems with those brackets and your bumper tie in bracket. If you wanted to try - the fox ones are very similar and probably easier to source. But I would just buy some of the generic weld on ones from ruffstuff or wherever and make them work.

    Thanks.

Not to disagree ... especially since I've never seen these in person. But now I'm curious about the potential problems.

I was going to lop off the bottom part that attaches to the sway bar mount, and just sandwich the flat part between the frame and my bumper support. It's held on by a huge bolt through that frame plug, right where there's already a gigantic hole in the ADS bracket. Seems so simple... is there something I'm overlooking? Like, are there gussets on the back side of the ADS bracket?

Thanks, that was step one, now I'm just being impatient. I heard these might be out of production, hopefully I can still buy them.

Ah, with modifying them they should work fine. I was incorrectly assuming you were going to bolt them on to the sway bar mount.

Hey, I know this isn't what you're asking for at all, but whatever, I'm about to offer you something free... with a caveat.

I have a couple of these basic mounts that you're welcome to (for free). Check the link, and the two photos that follow it. The caveat is that they are on the truck, and the truck is in Las Vegas, so I wouldn't be able to mail them to you until... Jan 26. Knowing how often you go on trips though, that rope might be able to hold you over :p.
