I’m not sure if any of you guys suffer from a heavy foot as well but since I have lifted my truck my gas mileage dropped to around 14.5 on average!

Typically the truck doesn’t run over 70mph without dropping a gear and cruising at 3500 rpm.

I am curious as to if any of you have had the same issue and what you have done to overcome them, other than re-gearing

    Thank you

    A few minor things...
Air intakes do nothing on naturally aspirated cars. Your truck already has all the air it can possibly use.

Re-gearing changes the final drive ratio. This is your best bet.

Don’t forget to take the larger tire size into account. If your tires are 5% larger, multiply your mpg by 5%.

what did you get before the lift? Did you add bigger tires?

I guess by your subject line you're asking if a CAI will help mpg. I think maybe .25 mpg which you won't even notice. I put one on my none lifted Sport and saw no significant improvement in mpg, but I did remove the air dam about the same time so maybe one countered the other. Who knows.

I don't really think just an air intake is going to make those issues much better for you.

Some who are lifted/heavy have reported better performance/mpgs running OVtune.

I'm stock/manual trans so I can't speak directly on the issue.

Check out the review thread and see what you think.

Price of admission is quite high, ~ $800 'murican.

Edit: Oh and of course re-gear, missed the big-assed tires part. Some have actually combined gears WITH OVtune, like 'dis guy - @Trident904

The advantage is it provides oxygen to the engine which facilitates the combustion process :anonymous:

Did you recalibrate the speedo after the new tires? The MPGs might not be as bad as you think?

I average 16.5 MPG where I live. Stock except a shell, which probably took away 1-2 MPG. I could probably do better but I'd rather just keep having fun.

As crazy as some of you may of thought creating this thread there is some truth behind what I was saying!! Installed the intake and per the trucks mpg it has gone from being 12.7 to 15.2 sololy due to the rpms being more controlled at speed (70-80mph). The truck was typically having to be in 5th gear riding at 3500rpm and now it’s between 1500-2000rpm. Thanks for all the input tho guys

You quickly need to patent whatever you did and sell it to ALL OEMs so you can make billions of dollars man. A new air filter increasing efficiency by 25%? They will buy it in a heartbeat..

"CAI" causing a 20% improvement in mpg? I think it's in the "less likely than not" category.

It’s not creating improvement in mpg lol reading the text. my motor isn’t running at as high rpm at speed, which in turn makes me save gas! Sorry if this is confusing to some of you.

I average 16-17mpg in traffic commuting everyday, lifted, tires, armor, gear.

OVTuned though...literally the BEST thing you can get for these trucks...oh and don’t run 285’s...run 255’s for better mpg and power

Yah...I see a lot of guys running wide tires on these trucks for “cool” factor. Functionally though full size truck tire widths don’t belong on these trucks, too much power wasted to turn them...unless you run BIG weight. I’m running 265’s getting those mpgs in traffic. My next set is 255/75/17 because of a lot of R&D spent with tire testing and other drivers.

Here is some food for thought. If you ever look at the Toyota’s being off-roaded and driven in Australia and Africa...almost all of them run skinnier tires for the reduced weight, better digging traction, and better mpgs.
