Yup, black looks awesome after a hand wash.

5 minutes later the birds start circling & the dust starts to settle on it.....

In defence of the color white, it'll stay cooler in the hot summer months or in hotter regions of the country, although it might need to be repainted at some point in its lifetime.

Black is my favorite, but very high maintenance. Don't get black if you don't have the time to keep it up or aren't familiar with professional car detailing.

MGM is almost as much fun as black, but significantly less maintenance. I wish Toyota would bring back radiant red.

Light colored cars get better gas mileage than dark ones. Go for a white or tan one.

White’s the best color (ice cap). You can go for that storm trooper look!!

I wanted to thank everyone for their input, you all gave a lot of the kind of feedback I was looking for.

A few have asked what my personal preference is, I had leaned toward white but wanted to further understand the white paint "issue" before continuing my search.

My navy silverado was as high maintenance as black and was often called black, but was really a deep navy.
Due to the care I had to put into maintaining the navy, black was last on my list. I liked MGM but wasn't sure how it compared to other colors as far as maintenance, you all answered that for me.
My first tacoma was silver, but I am in the market, hopefully, for a TRD pro and was unaware silver was unavailable. So thank you for helping me learn more, in that, that won't be a factory option.

My second Tacoma was a 2nd gen, radiant red. I fought clear coat issues, purely because it was/is a rebuilt wreck/ salvage title truck.
But, I loved the red and am definitely not opposed to the bolder color options.

I want to give credit in this thread to lunar rock showing up and defending their color. I have always found it to be eye catching but I really respect how quick you were to add in the love of your color.

I was curious if anyone had any input about the old tale I have always heard about ticketing being higher for other colors.
Ultimately, a lot will come down to availability, but I wanted to have all the information in case it came down to two trucks of different colors.

TLDR: I like white but worry about paint, also like lunar rock and quicksand, had concerns about MGM

Additional note, if you haven't given up on this post yet, just a little love for TacomaWorld Forums. I have been in and out of the forums with 4 different Yotas now and have always found this to be such a quality resource.
The internet has changed but I'm glad the forums still have their truck love and banter at the core. Thank you all.

OP; if you want white then get white! It certainly does look bad ass with the black trim. I knew of the potential white paint issue thing, but figured I would take my chances since I liked it so much. I am at that age where stuff like vehicle paint jobs don't concern me anymore. Don't let the fear mongering here stop you from getting what you really want.

New paint costs less than replacing a Rivian with a Tacoma.

I had red cars in high school, it was actually the white car I had that got me all my tickets.

    Yeah, Lunar Rock, rocks!

That was me with the Navy Silverado. That thing was a cop magnet. Actually got two tickets in one day in it. It was a fun truck but it doesn't measure up with the Tacomas.

Just curious what separates the "good ones" from the bad ones. What common denominator affects the outcome of the 040 paint delamination away from the primer. No amount of waxing or care will prevent this. Lots of thoughts on this issue but I guess only Toyota knows what the main contributing factor is when it comes to failure and others are fine. 3 years in my 2020 040 is good. (So far)

When I purchased my 2020 I had a choice of either black or white. Due to supply chain and Covid issues, color choice was not a luxury. Black is too hard to keep clean and I did not know there was a potential issue with one stage, clear coat, mixed with white paint, 040 Super White/Ice Cap.

If I had a choice, I would have chosen cement or silver.

    The primer.
Judging by many years of tw posts with pictures, the failed ones had a yellowish primer. The other primer is a grey color (mine white has a grey primer)

Limited colors with the Pros. White was not my first choice but for me it was manual transmission > color. FWIW knock on wood but zero issues with my 040 Super White (now Ice Cap) paint. I'm the one that started the consolidated white paint thread and the common thread seems to be MY 17 with a 3 VIN for Mexico plants. Will see as time progresses and that changes. The Pro's until the new tundra were rolled out were built in the SA TX plant.
