Thanks Cayleigh, this career path certainly was my calling, I've seem to have a good rapport with the students and its an ever changing and evolving kind of atmosphere from year to year. So its great that I never really get caught up in the monotony of doing the same thing day in an day out. There are certainly pro's and cons to everything but being able to enjoy what your doing, as a career has always been important to me. As far as what you teacher was able to teach or had a say in, really it varys from district to district and state to state. I have been fortunate enough to teach in a town where I have lots of flexibility in the content I teach to the where I've now been able to design and implement 100% of the curriculum I teach. For that matter alone I consider myself very lucky because I know that's not possible in many areas.
I hear you on the commission part, doing art for a living certainly does not pay the bills, but sometimes they can provide a little mod money.
