Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. I for one, can't wait to get back to Canada - I've got unfinished business and some new places to explore!

New adventure isn't far away! ;)

I say this to a lot of folks, so I'll tell you as well... You can do it now. In a stock Tacoma. There's nothing on the Whipsaw that you'll get stuck on. For all the obstacles there, there are bypasses - so if you get uncomfortable, just skip a given rocky section or ledge.

Get out and have fun. These trucks are more capable in stock form than 90% of their drivers (myself included)!

After my recent trip to Colorado, I have to agree with this. I'm running a stock TRD Pro (I know, third gen, yuck), and the only upgrade is 265/75R16 KO2's (E-rated). I was with some other more experienced Taco owners and didn't want to be a total chicken, so I followed them on some roads I probably never would have tried otherwise. My truck had no problem at all and I gained a lot of good driving experience, as well as good knowledge of what my truck is capable of. Kind of funny what you will attempt when the alternative (turning back) is just as scary as moving forward. Never had to use anything more than 4L.

Of course, the two built-up 1st gens I was with were a bit more capable, and their drivers much more willing to put their trucks in harm's way. There was one climb out of a creek that I refused to do after a 2nd gen SR5 with no rear locker failed, but the 1st gens and a 2nd gen with a locker all made it. They all had lifts, though, and not sure my bumper would have stayed attached coming back down. Me and the no-locker guy just set up camp (and got the best parking spots).

Looking forward to some cooler weather and more exploring in the Ozarks!

As a current GFC owner, all I can say is enjoy! We’ve put over 8k miles on ours since June. It’s awesome!

@turbodb do you know what CVT tent is the one on the far left?

OK, question for the GFC owners... I know they have the RTT now as well. Is that litterally the same tent that is on the GFC? As in, could I take it off the GFC and put it on the roof of the 4Runner? It's nice right now that I can move the CVT back and forth when we go with @mini.turbodb.

Yeah, that's the Mt. Shasta Summit Extended. General consensus from our group is that it's better not to get the Summit; the Pioneer (extended) weighs less and is actually a bit more durable. And the tent on my truck is the Pioneer Standard (non-extended).

But the extension is great. Both of mine have had it.

I've destroyed the aluminum floor though. Not sure it's worth it. It is warmer though with the heavier tent material. But overall weight is way heavier.

    No. There are several differences.

The exterior (extrusion, strut, hinges, latches) is the same with the exception of the floor, which is solid on the RTT version.

Also, the TENT is different between the two. By default the RTT comes with a side "door" entryway, which is an upgrade/option on the camper version.

Lastly, even if you spec'd the truck version with the same tent and solid floor, the way the top part is attached to the space frame is several bolts that IF you were to remove to move the top clamshell, the doors would fall off.

tl;dr - it's not meant to do what you desire. Not one bit. You'd be better just getting the RTT version and modifying the taco bed cage to allow for swapping between the 4Runner and Taco. Also, the RTT is cheaper AND a much, much shorter wait time to purchase.

Defeats the point of the GFC.

Just keep the rtt now for the 4runner. That way when she inherits the 4runner it'll be totally set. Haha

Hmm. Not sure if I care that the doors would fall off; I mean, I could put them back on. Floor seems workable too - who cares if it's solid or not. Side door - totally don't care until I'm way older.

    Maybe this could work.

    Agreed.

Thought of that! hahahaha. Problem is that I can't just leave the tent on the 4Runner parked on the street, else I won't have a tent soon. Plus, who wants to drive around town with a tent all the time on their DD? I'd look like a Jeep.

Sounds like you just need a hardshell tent specifically for the 4Runner.

Or .... better yet .... I'm going to plant the seed...

Sell BOTH and get a double cab and one good camper. Kid(s) fit, dog(s) fit, only need one adventure vehicle.

Same problem as the soft RTT - it'll walk off when it's parked on the street.

    GTFO of my head. :D

I'd love to do this. But I've had the Taco since it was brand new; I'm too loyal. Will have it till it finally pukes to it's death because I haven't reinforced the coil buckets enough.

Even with security nuts? Or maybe somehow throw a tack weld? My RTT on my 1st gen sat outside for years with zero people attempting to steal it :notsure:

Well, at least you'll know exactly what to do when you get the double cab and have all of the posts on your website to reference. If you want practice before you get your DCSB, you can box my frame for me and relocate my rear shocks :D

It's probably totaled already. Those coilbuckets will fail at any moment.

Might as well sell it and get a 4th gen. :luvya:
