I don't understand why people are suggesting to fill the gas tank before it sits for 10 months, then you get home and have to drive with old gas for 300 miles. Why not let it sit with an 1/8 tank, get home, drive straight to a gas station and fill up with fresh gas?

do not run it out of gas, you'd be far better FILLING the gas tank with as high an octane as you can find, find one with as little ethanol as possible as well. fill tires to max pressure, maybe a bit higher, put it on a battery tender, it'll be fine - better yet - if you have a friend/significant other that can start and or drive the truck for a mile or two every few weeks.

However if you don't, it'll be fine, all these yahoos telling you to drain the fuel tank are crazy, unless you're going to pull the injectors and let them soak in WD40 and drip some oil in the cylinders, you're better leaving some fuel in the system.

I use Bounce dryer sheets all over the interior, trunk and under hood areas when storing the Chebby.
No rodents and the car smells like a brand new haircut, lol.

    umm, gas doesn't rot.

it isn't old skool leaded gas with all sort of crap in it. a full tank ensure the vapors
fill the entire tank making sure no outside air gets in

Filling with high octane serves no purpose. That's just silly.

93 will not keep longer than 87.

I leave my truck sitting outside for 8 months every year. I don't do a damn thing except fill the gas tank full and lower my comprehensive deductible. Starts up and drives fine every time I get home. Been like this going on 6 years now.

I'm curious as to why people suggest changing the oil BEFORE you park it for 10 months? What benefit does this offer? Then you have a bunch of fresh oil sitting in the oil pan, and if you are OCD enough to change it before you park it I would assume you would also change it upon your return home, so you're basically 'wasting' an oil change.

Personally, I'd park it, maybe put the battery on a tender; and in 10 months I'd start it and drive on.

they change the oil before storage because there are acids in used motor oils and its best to take them out before letting it sit a long time

Drain all fluids. ALL fluids. Vehicles that sit for long periods of time will often leak more than those in use. Gaskets and seals are not being lubricated as they normally would while running the vehicle. Drain all fluids, just like a motorcycle/dirt bike.

I agree with the above if your vehicle will be off the road for several years. The OP's vehicle will only be off the road for 10 months. While very effective, it just isn't necessary, IMO of course. Like many have said, clean it, change oil, take care of the fuel, battery and tuck her in.

you have nothing to worry about op. clean it up, fill the gas tank so there's less room for condensation to build and disconnect the neg bat cable so it wont go flat.

some of you guys are being pretty extreme, These aren't tires from the 1940's your not going to develop flatspots sitting for less then a couple years, and if you do get flatspots your tires probably needed to be replaced from age anyway.
