    I just got my Tacoma a couple months ago and it still has stock brakes, but I've noticed with previous vehicles that just getting some slotted rotors and good pads (example, Centric slotted rotors and Hawk LTS pads on my GX470) makes a noticeable improvement without spending big bucks on a brake swap or big brake kit. I'm not really facing the same dilemma since my truck already has 5.29s (which are awesome) but that would be my plan - affordable rotor/pad upgrade and spend the real money on the re-gear.

    Mine is pretty heavy, honestly all you need is PowerStop rotors, pads, drums, shoes, steel braided brake lines front and back, DOT 4 fluid, and to make sure that the rear drums are adjusted properly. A good set of tires with plenty of tread is more important.

    OEM Rotors tends to warp around here with the mountain passes and excessive heat from driving. I would regear before considering a major brake upgrade.
