20 years working on more, this is not the first go 'round for either of us so we both learned many "what no to do"s.

This is the bulk of my list of things "to do"

    3 most important phrases
    • We can get through this together (If you can't you will soon be apart)
    • Yes Dear (may be follow with "you're right", "anything you want", or "I'll do everything I can to make sure it never happens again")
    • I love you (Say it every day)

    3 things to remember
    • She is right, almost always (Ignore the "almost)
    • Whatever it is, If it is likely to cause a fight, it is NOT worth it
    • She is a part of YOU and you HER*

3 most important things to do
    • Treat her as your queen
    • Protect her as your treasure
    • Love her as no other can

    * This also means when she wins you win. Shut up and take the win!!

you are very lucky if it is just a couple.
I still do not understand why my wife has so many designer purses, like there is no more place to store them in the house. and shoes, I think I stopped counting at 100 pairs. I think it is the rush of placing an order rather than owning the shoe or purse itself. as often times, she does not even know what she ordered or if an order actually arrived or not, not to mention a lot of them only got used once and some even never been used. oh, and if she sees someone buys a new purse or shoe, she has to buy two.
I just let it go as a mystery of life that cannot be rationally explained. 26 years now.

My wife, unlike a lot of women, is not into the designer purse or shoe thing. She is and always has been quite practical, which makes me wonder why she married me at times.

She has 3 purses, 1 for church, 1 for "formal" events, and another for every day use.
She has more shoes, but the count is under 20 or 25 including flip flops, and dress shoes.

When one purse or pair of shoes gets worn out she replaces it. She has never been one to just buy new just to have more. If she does buy a new purse she carries it for a bit and either returns it if she does not like it at that point, or assuming she likes the new one best, gets rid of the "old" one.

On the flip side, if she sees a new tool that she thinks I could use she is more than happy to ask "Do you need one of those? They say it will do x, y, and z. Sometimes you do some of that." When I tell her I already have a similar tool that does everything I need I usually hear "But this one is new and says it will do it better, how many years have you had the one you have?" I found the way out of the "loop" is to point out I have had my wife for 20 years and still love her, why do I need a new <tool> when the old one is great?

More than once this not only got the conversation dropped but also got me a cold beer out of the fridge, a kiss and a cuddle.

    Lucky you.

I also learned the hard way never to tell your wife she is materialistic. It’s along the same line as the previous post of how to answer do I look fat in this dress question.

Sounds like he should’ve walked away about 25 years ago. Don’t be a dumbass is just good life advice for everything, not just marriage.

Treat your wife like your Tacoma.

I offroad my truck quite a bit and try my best to take extra good care of it, so in that sense I think it's fair to compare the two.

But...my truck does take a beating on the trails so the comparison would have to stop there lol.

While I am no longer married, we made it 13 years..... I can however offer you some valid advice. Communication is paramount in a marriage. Once you lose it, the rest will follow... If you have an issue, don't let it fester, communicate with her. Tell her you love her. And be humble, meaning don't let pride get in the way of resolving problems.... Best thing I can offer.. While mine wasn't meant to be, I have two awesome little boys to enjoy from it, and am surrounded by long marriages in my family. My parents are going on 42 years, my Grandparents were well over 50 when my Grandfather passed. It can be done and it takes real work from husband and wife. Enjoy
