    Hey all!

I'm replacing my axle seal and come to discover some heavy marring on the mating surfaces from whenever this job was last done. I can't get a new axle anytime soon so what would you do in this situation? I'm considering a bead of RTV perhaps at the bottom of the 45 degree angle. I know I'm asking for a bandaid solution but will someday need surgery. What do you suggest?

Another question: All the tutorials I saw of this replacement showed the seal mates flush with where the hub bolts on but my seal is recessed by nearly 40mm. Does that mean I already have a different rear axel?

P.S. replacing the breather too as a precaution (this time extending towards the bed)

RTV might work, or maybe some JB Weld (then let it cure and gently sand it smooth with the rest of the surface).

RE seal placement- you don't have ABS so that makes a difference.

I would try to clean that up- removing any high spots that would damage the new seal on it's way in, and then dealers choice of rtv or jb weld from there..

Whoever did that and sent it is savage.

yea file or sand lightly to get surface even as you can and a thin layer of oil resistant RTV or toyota FPIG should seal that right up, I've seen some badly gouged seal surfaces and this one isn't that bad.

Not having ABS is why my seal is 40mm recessed compared to others? Good to know! ABS just slows you down anyway. Thank to you and J1mb0sTac0
for the advice. I'll work on deburring and go with oil resistant RTV, then hope for the best
