Getting ready to purchase as soon as my order arrives and debating on the dealer offered extended warranty (7 years/100k miles for $1800) and rust protection. I know this is going to be very objective and everyone has a different view on it. I just want to see what kind of reasoning you all have for either getting it or not getting it.

Also, since this is the first vehicle I will be purchasing new I was wondering if you guys had some advice from you experience. I've read many threads but none that was specific to the new 3rd gen taco's.

    Thanks!

Go rear all three of the major pricing threads on the front page of the 3rd gen forums. They are full of stories and pricing that people are getting all over the country. There is also a few threads about ordering and the ways that Toyota dealers can do it.

Please ask more specific questions and we can help you. I can write buyer on a my computer.

TacoBella will be in here to tell you where to buy a cheap, real Toyota warranty.

I read through most of it and there's a lot of great info out there. But I wanted more of the logic that people are using to decide whether to buy the warranty/rust protection etc or not.

My advise is to work off OTD price not payments! Look up the invoice pricing for the truck and all your add on and the 950 destination fee and start working towards invoice prices. Stick to it hard contact 20 dealerships near you or find a volume dealership that already has theirs marked down low. Tax and tags are on you, but that is another fee also.

Good luck! Let me tell you this the amount of time spent looking and trying to work a deal sucks. I finally said screw it spent $1000 more than I wanted and got the truck. I was tired of negotiating.

Pretty sure the Warranty guy (Toby) was shut down by corporate. Meaning he cannot sell the cheap warranties any longer.

I never buy them because of the curve illustrates below. Most of the defects will either be in the initial warranty coverage or after even the extended warranty expires. There is a reason they want to sell these so bad.

If I were you, OP, I'd do the rust prevention myself. I don't trust the coatings that dealerships use or the person applying it.

I used Fluid film. Total cost was around $60 and it took me 2 hours to do in my driveway (most of which was cleaning off mud before coating)

I wish there were other dealers to shop around, but I live in Hawaii (Oahu) and the 3 toyota dealerships are all owned by the same company: SERVCO

    Oahu, Hawaii

I had read a post about this earlier. Thanks for the advice, this is a great alternative and more cost effective

    Troy sells http://fd-warranty.com/aboutus.html

He used to be thee guy to go to to buy after market Genuine Toyota VSCs. Toby was the last guy I bought from online a month or so ago before he got clipped.

Toyota's stand on this is these guys cannot sell online. But if you go to them they can sell you a heavily discounted Genuine VSC. For an 8/100K a flight or long drive might be worth it. To Shreveport, or Mid West Toyota in Kansas. JErry is the guy there.

Toyota decided to continue to sell VSCs online. Apparently Southeast Toyota does not care if he is selling their brand. Fidelity which is offered in dealerships in the South East, Toyota's VSC is not sold in the SE. Region

The Moran family who owns Southeast Toyota Distributorship sells their own financing and VSCs, That is why I bought mine out of the area as I wanted a Genuine Toyota VSC that actually covers more.

But yeah give Troy a call he will explain the VSC availability and prices

Dealership in the Sacramento area wants $1030 for a 7year 75000 mile Toyota extended warranty. Is this VSC warranty you write about the same as a Toyota warranty?
