Just wondering at what RPM (typically) do you shift at? Since we AT guys have the option of shifting as well, just wondering for fuel economy sake, where you folks shift. I understand shifting for power is something different. AT folks please chime in as well.
    Looking forward to the responses!

The responses you get are going to vary. I don't like to lug the engine, so its 1700-2000 for me, on average.

It depends on the situation. If cruising, I'll up shift at as low as about 2k. Post-TSB, there is plenty of torque / power to move along at just over 1k. If I need to accelerate hard, dropping two or three gears is typical realizing that 2nd redlines at just over 60mph. And, 6th to 3rd is an easy drop.

If screwing around, the rev limiter gets played with.

Edit: Pre-TSB, I could climb grades and maintain speed in 6th at 40mph, but no less. Post-TSB, 5th works fine at 30 and 6th at 35. The great part about that is the option to either go full throttle to gain a bit of speed or row, row, row the gears all that I want.

I think around 2,000 +-, shift by ear.

This unless I am feeling sporty, this will also vary greatly by tire sizes and gears.

It really varies. If I am pulling out onto a state hwy, 1st is ~3500, 2nd 3000 to 3500, 3rd ~2500 to 3ish, 4th up until ~50 to 55mph then I plop it into 6th. Around town ( ihave no stop lights), windy roads, or windy state road, 4th and 5th get used alot more and revs vary depending on the terrain

If one needs to watch the tachometer to figure out when to shift, they shouldn't be driving a MT. No insult meant here, just that seasoned MT drivers know when to shift based on the road situation.

This. That's the thing about MT, you shift whenever you feel is the best to shift at the present conditions, but for fuel economy sake, I would say at the 2000ish mark. Then again, I didn't buy a MT for fuel economy, so more often than not I shift to always keep the engine above 3500 until cruising speed is attained.

The AT gets better MPGs cuz it shifts way earlier than anyone would on the MT.

I usually shift around 3000rpm during normal acceleration. Then cruise around 1500-2000rpm.
Only issue I have is that 1st-2nd feels a little crunchy if I shift around 3000rpm for some reason... feels better to me to shift 1st-2nd below 2500 or above 3500.

Maybe - when I had stock OEM tires with the chin strap and tri-fold tonnpro cover, I could easily get 23 to 24 mpgs with summer gas. Winter gas was pretty consistent 21 to 22s. This is not babying it, jsut normal driving weith some redlines here and there. Now I have no chin strap and 265/70-r17 KO-Bros I am down to 18s to 19 on winter gas.

I keep the revs up personally. 90% of the time I am between 2000-3000 RPMs regardless of gear. Shift at 3000ish if I'm accelerating.

It depends on the situation and where i am driving on when I shift. 95% of the time I do skip gears, usually 4th or 5th.

Yep..shift by ear! Don’t even have to look at rpm’s..I do this in all MT’s..Driving an auto makes me cringe when it needs to shift and hesitates..

I used to drive a manual Dakota that didn't have a tachometer, it had a light that would flash if you were approaching redline to warn you but otherwise, you just shifted off of feel/sound.

It also had a 2.5l 4 cylinder in it that was completely and utterly powerless, couldn't even get up the hill into my neighborhood if I had to stop for some reason. Only had that truck for a couple months lol. Was a naive 18yr old impulse buy.

Lower than I thought I would reading about the “no torque” engine. I had the same engine in a Sienna and usually drive it like I stole it, I’m much more chill in this truck.

If I am really trying to save gas around 2000. But normally around 2500-3000 or when it feels right. That's currently with stock tires and no lift.

AT and MT have different ratios so it's no comparison.
