You don’t want to feed power to it for sure.

Thanks, for the LED light, I was only thinking of the switch function.

Roger that. Fried computers are my least favorite fried thing.

Understood. I think AirOnBoard's "OEM replacement" tagline signifies that they look identical to OEM, nothing more.

Is a relay necessary to make the switch lighting work this way? How would one go about rigging up this relay? Is there a way to do it that won't drive me into the bottle at 9am?

I mean no disrespect, but you are a long ways off from being ready to do creative wiring and cutting on the factory harness. You need to get a soldering iron, heat shrink, multimeter, and scrap wire. Practice soldering, read about how relays work and their purpose, learn the purpose and location of fuses and their rating relating to wire gauge, learn how to check voltage and resistance, and start with simple projects like wiring in a light bar with a proper fuse and relay. If you get stuck on wiring a simple project, ask and we'll help you along.

Fair points, and no offense taken. I wanted to be realistic about my skills up front so I wouldn't get in over my head; I'm grateful for advice tailored to that self-assessment. I do have some experience soldering, although the solder joints look like crap. I also have made some DC circuits from scratch, wiring in inline fuses and using plug-in MOSFETs to control the circuit. I think my main hangup is the consequences of mistakes: unlike my previous electrical projects, screwing up with this means my one and only vehicle is either malfunctioning or non-functioning.

Wire the 'b' contact of the relay to the switch LED.

This wiring configuration will allow the switch to light up when the circuit is open? Do you have a @caribe makaira-style wiring diagram you could sketch up?
