Hi everyone, as the title states, need some advice on what I should do with my Tacoma. In the last couple weeks, there’s been a vibration in the steering wheel and truck between 45-75 km/h (25-45 mph)The vibration is consistent in frequency in these speeds and doesn’t change with the speed. If I take it on the freeway and run it at ~110 km/h (70 mph) for a bit, the vibration goes away till the next day.

The truck is fully stock except for the suspension. I had Elka 2.5 DC suspension, dobinsons leafs and SPC UCA installed in the spring to give a 2.5 inch, still running stock sized tires but have had a steering alignment done after the lift.

The only thing the vibes remind me of is the ABS system. Same sort of vibrations that don’t seem related to the tire or engine speed. I had an incident a few weeks back where the ABS kicked in, but the ABS light did not light up in the dash. Makes me think this may possibly be related to the brakes. I had new pads put on and rotors resurfaced a few thousand km ago.

I’m not sure if the vibrations are from the lift or something else with the truck. With COVID, I don’t want to be going out needlessly to get it sorted out. The two options I can see are having Toyota take a look to see if it’s something that is covered by the warranty still. Or go to the shop that installed the suspension if it’s from that. I’m not sure if what I’m experiencing is drive line vibrations from the lift. Wanted to get some advice in case anyone has run into something similar.

    Thank you for any input!!

ECGS Bearing - your truck probably needs one.

At least from what you're describing. I still suffer from a vibe at highway speeds only in sixth gear which is so odd, but truck. lol

Got it, thanks man. It looks fairly easy to do but I’ll probably get the shop do it for me.

If it's the bearing it'll go away when you switch to 4wd

Went out and tested 4 high and the vibes went away. Seems it is the needle bearing. I’ve called the shop that did the lift and told them what was happening and what I think it may be. They said they would give me a call back after conferring so guess we’ll see if they can help out.

Also tested the sound system, results were that the vibration was still present with the audio turned off ;)

Why is this? What about going into 3wd makes this go away?
