I own a garaged 2004 Tacoma SR5, automatic, 4 cylinder, Xtra Cab 2D truck; Engine: 2.7L I4 SFI with 83K miles on it. It’s in great shape except for undercarriage rust; in particular the frame. The frame recall has expired. A local Toyota dealer has offered me 4 or 5 thousand dollars for it. They told me I could get at least another year of use even with this rust, but I’ve decided to sell it instead of taking a chance of failure sooner. Should I take the dealer offer, or is there a better way to go? Thank you.

Is that offer towards a new truck/trade-in?

I don't know how bad it is, exactly; pretty bad I think. I'm not capable of your solution (which sounds real good to me), but thank you.

No. I think the dealer will go the auction route with it. It's breaking my heart to sell it. If I hadn't missed the Frame Recall years ago I wouldn't be in this fix. The truck is in real good shape otherwise. I don't even need a second vehicle. I only keep the truck because I love
it so much and it's useful when needed, 'tho rarely. I won't be buying a second vehicle when the truck is gone.

Keep it. Drive it until you cant anymore. My brother in law has an 84 with over 300K "Ohio" miles on it. That is 39 winters and salted roads. The frame is nearing the end. His welds are even rusting apart. The original body was shot years ago so he swapped out a 93 body he found and kept going with the frame and drive line. Its become a game with him to keep it going the last few years.
