Advice on 2019 TRD Offroad lift kits

    Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and just bought my first Tacoma in November of last year. I went with the '19 TRD Off Road. I'm wanting to do a mild lift and am looking for input. I've searched through some threads and there is definitely alot of different opinions out there.

    So I'm thinking about just a 3inch lift. Nothing too extreme. I dont go offroad every weekend but I do like to play around here n there so I dont think I need anything super crazy. I want to do it the right way the first time but still remain somewhat budget friendly. I'm not too sure that spacers/blocks are the way to go but idk. I saw ToyTec had a kit with the bilstein 5100's and AAL for around $800. With only going 3in would I need to do uca's and a diff drop? I was thinking they may not be a bad idea to avoid future issues.

    I'm in the same boat as you. I'm wondering if I should just do spacers and blocks lift or go all out for a set of ADS stage 1 system. The difference in price is huge. I daily my tacoma so ride quality is really important to me.

    3” is too big for “small”
    If you go 2” you can get bigger tires thus actually increasing clearance.
    You should search this forum completely as everyone will say their lift is the correct.

    I wanted bad ass handling both on and off road, a decent ride, reasonable clearance and a more aggressive look. That lead me to a suspension lift.

    A 3” lift will look goofy unless you go up to 33” tire IMHO. In some ways your lift is determined by what size of tire you want to run.

    I have a 1.5 lift in front and the same in the rear using Billstien 5100s and an add-a-leaf, with 31” c-rated kO2. I maintained the 1” factory rake because I don’t like the “stance” of a level Tacoma, especially if you load the bed with gear and it goes nose-high.

    This setup is perfect for the uses I have for my truck. I want to keep it lightweight and fuel efficient for long distance travel and good ride quality, without the negatives of larger/heavier tires.

    I don’t want to CMC, or blow through wheel bearings or regear to make up for lost power.....so as good as 33”s look, I’m out on those.

    Contact the vendors on the ‘approved vendors list’. Get advice from them, as well as prices. I used Headstrong Offroad on my last truck, good pricing, great advice. There are many others as well,let them know your a TW member. And do your research, anything over 2” can get expensive.

    5100’s with 887 coils, and a AAL with meet your needs and not break the bank which is what you probably saw on toytec. You can check the marketplace too on here, many people ditch that setup for something else so you can usually get some lightly used parts. Anything more then 2” usually required UCA’s and replacing the needle bearing in the front diff.

    I’ve had no vibration issues at 1.5” and really like the ride on 5100s on and off road. Huge upgrade from stock.

    I kept stock front coils. Haven’t noticed any issues with doing that at such a mild lift.

    From what I’ve seen on here anything under 2” usually won’t bring on issues. I lifted mine 1” all around and haven’t had any either for the past 20k and it meets my needs just fine, and the 5100’s are a definite upgrade from stock.

    The great thing about 5100s is they are good shocks, ride awesome, you can buy them anywhere, they don’t leak (cough...cough.....IKON) and if you blow one up, or wear them out, it’s pretty painless to buy another set.

    They are popular for many reasons other than just being inexpensive.

    I haven't personally ran the 5100's but from what I gather on reading on here they're basically a happy medium between the Sport and the Offroad shocks. I have a Sport 3rd Gen and had a Sport 2nd gen, although my 2nd gen had factory Bilsteins. They were both pretty rough, great for windy roads and soaking up small bumps, but any pot holes or fast dirtroads felt like the truck was going to rattle itself to pieces. I'm looking forward to upgrading to 5100's.

    Here is what it would look like with stock wheels and tires on a 3 inch lift....It just looks off, I am currently waiting on my new wheels to come in, Ordered them this afternoon.

    I’ve found them to be better on and Offroad. Somehow they smooth out the sharp impacts, but also take away the brake dive and wallowy feel of the stock OR billstiens. You won’t regret it.
