I posted a video of how it sounds (linked to that post earlier in this thread) wind noise was a little annoying, but you'll get an idea of what it sounds like inside and outside of truck

When you got this done, was the offset there as I had described? I saw your muffler intake side was tilted a little

YES! The sound is what I was looking for. The guy at the shop said that it is the sound this kind of truck should have. I tried to record the sound but none of the takes I recorded did it any justice.

Actually, yes. When I was under I just saw the pipes before and after the muffler aligned. What I did not notice was that the offset was not to the sides but on the top of the inlet when it was chopped off. If that makes sense. So the outlet was centered but the offset was on the top of the muffler on the inlet side.

OK good, I was boggled when you mentioned earlier they weren't offset, was then curious if these trucks somehow came with different exhausts on them. Haha

I narrowed my catback choice down to the Borla S type and Gibson Stainless - both of which I have access to between $300 - $350. Anyone have experience with both and want to chime in on which will sound better (not too loud, doesn't produce drone, and not honda civic ricey?)

I have the Gibson and it sounds great, had magnaflow and flowmaster both drone AF. The Gibson has a nice burble, sounds like a small V8, or like a flat 6. That burble if anyone knows what I mean. I don't get drone with it, lil louder when you get on it. But sounds really good.

OK.. here is my exhaust story, make of it what you will. My Taco is my DD not my toy, I am typically riding alone, I do not wheel, I felt stock sounded too weak/timid/car like.

While doing my own attempts at exhaust research, I luckily found someone local that had a 3" MPRB axle dump and wanted/needed to swap back to stock. Cost here was perfect!! Met with him, heard the exhaust in person and thought it sounded good. It seemed a little loud but his truck had all windows open and I figured a closed cab would subdue the sound. We did the swap and I was very happy.

Time goes by and I am still happy, though closed cab noise did not seem much diminished over an open cab. Db readings from my phone app gave me a min of about 50db, average of 70-72db, and peaks in the upper 80's. I think highest I got was about 89 and lowest was in the upper 40's while truck was coasting on a smooth section of road. Then the wife and I go on a road trip to see our daughter hauling a bed full of her stuff. Averaging 70ish MPH on the road down, with a slight tail wind, the was drone but we could still talk if we raised our voices a bit, and I was no accelerating at the time. On the way home, I was pushing 75 to 80 with nothing in the bed and a little heavier head wind. After an hour plus of the louder drone the wife complained and commented "We don't need to be doing any more road trips in your truck if it is going to be this loud." :pout:

So now I decide to do something to make it "better". On advice from a muffler shop, I added 2.5" pipe over the axle and out at the stock-ish location. This did reduce cab noise and while it was better it was still a bit loud to try to converse with RPMs over 2.5K or so.:censored:

Last round, swapped the muffler for a Magnaflow. I do not recall which particular model #, but it is an 18" oval with 2.5 C/2.5 offset. Just as an FYI the only change that was made was the muffler, it is still a 3" from the mid pipes and 2.5" after the muffler. I have about 350-400 miles on it and took the wife to dinner a coupe nights ago. She remarked how she could still hear the exhaust and it sounded "like a truck" but how much nicer it was sound wise in the truck. I dropped into S mode and kept the gears low enough to hold it about 3K for a bit she responded that is sounded good loud but not overbearing. Db #s are min still about 50db (gotta be road noise), average in the low to mid 60's, and peaks below 80db. Highest reading I have seen so far was just under 77db. She apologized for being a PITA and thanked me for working so hard to make her happy, even though as she says "it is your truck and you can do anything you want with it".

Both mufflers the exhaust would run at the quieter end of it's spectrum once you are at and holding speed. They could be heard, but were not "in your face" The MBRP has a more narrow band of "quiet" RPMs than the Magnaflow. Both are deep and low at idle, the MF just does not get as loud or loud as quickly as the MBRP.

End result from my point of view MBRP is a good sound but a lot of cab noise, Magnaflow a bit deeper (lower note) but softer, still very good, sound ~8db across the board and a dramatic drop is perceived noise level likely due to the frequency of sound more than the db. The MF still "comes alive" at the higher RPMs.
    :burnrubber:

I have found the Magnaflow preferable for me and it fits the adage of "happy wife happy life".

Thanks for reading, I hope all this helps at least one of my TW Brothers & Sisters:cheers:

    Good luck, your MMV. :hattip:

YouTube probably, but don't get too excited. All exhaust videos suck, hard to capture the sound.

yep ive been torn on putting one on. I can tell just by the way the stocks sounds its gonna be hard to get anything that I personally would be happy with.
Sometimes its better to just let things be stock or minimally adjusted. ymmv

might be better off just trying to make it sound like a ricer to be honest.

At least ill have the annoying sound im craving.
