While I think Carfax is a great thing & very valuable, we must remember that Carfax ONLY reports accidents that have been reported to the police. If there's no police report, Carfax won't know about it. In addition, Carfax will report something as minor as a scratched bumper as an accident if the police documented it--like a multi-car rear-ender, where the first car only got a scratch, but is part of the police report.

I'm aware of the limitations of Carfax. I just sold my car which had minor damage reported from an accident in 2011. Although it was professionally repaired, it still devalued my car.

I'll pull one for the piece of mind. It's better than nothing.
