Hey guys I'm new here, just bought a 2015 and had a lift put on yesterday by my local Big O Tires. They called it a 3" lift/level kit that consisted of a spacer up front and a leaf in the rear. As you can see it has a rake, about 2" lower in the front. It has 285/65/18 Nitto G2 Tires with XD Grenade with -12 offset. It rubs pretty good up front, both in front and rear of the wheel. The shop owner told me he installed the wrong front lift. It's only 1.5" vs the 2.5" which he just ordered. That should go on next week. I stopped by my local Les Schwab and they showed me what they believe Big O will install next week. I set it next to the truck currently and it's clearly going to sit higher.

Does anyone know whether or not it will continue to rub?

Is my ride quality going to be worse that the spacer I have now?

I appreciate all the help. Thanks!

    Yes sir
I'm going to save us some time here: +99% of tacomaworld members for bilstein 5100's or OME over a spacer lift.

I'm running spacers (dealer installed) currently while I save my pennies for a proper lift and although the truck rolls less in turns, it is firm as hell over bumps.

IIRC you will need to do some light trimming to clear those tires.

Tire shops usually only sell junky cosmetic lifts that make your truck WORSE at being a truck, not better. The wheel/tire combo is all wrong and they should be ashamed if they didn't warn you it would be problematic. Even with several more inches of lift it is likely the front tires will still rub because those wheels have more than double the offset of stock wheels. There are hordes of people on TacomaWorld with 255/85r16 tires on stock wheels/suspension with no rubbing. 255's are even taller than your tires but narrower and can tuck into the wheel well allowing full suspension travel. You have every right to make your truck look the way you like but a taller spacer will definitely make your truck ride worse and probably won't stop the tires from rubbing.

Everybody on this site will tell you to buy el cheapo 5100's with the promise that it's going to ride soooo much better. The truth is, it's NOT. Proper alignment has more to do with drivability than the "difference" between a spacer lift and a 5100 lift. A poor alignment on either one will drive like shit. 5100's aren't anything special. The ride quality will be almost EXACTLY the same with the type of spacers you're using since they're doing EXACTLY the same thing as a 5100 "lift" will do.

Either way, OP isn't complaining about the ride quality. The shop installed the wrong spacer and sold him wheels that will never clear without trimming regardless of which economy lift he uses. 5100's will not fix ANY of his issues.

Awesome thanks guys for the responses! I usually do a ton of research before going and doing something like this but went on a split decision because they through a crazy good deal compared to everyone else for the same combo.

Hopefully they will swap the wheels for a less aggressive offset since they should have known better.

Truth is I love these wheels! I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and trim a little. Just plastic right? No frame?

Take a peak with the wheel turned. I'm guessing you're going to be rubbing pretty bad on the body mount(metal). A lot of guys shave that mount in order to clear wheels/tires your size.

It's pretty close. I'm turned right in the pictures. The body mount picture is on the passenger side and the front fender is the driver.

What happens when the suspensions compresses? I had to shave mine with 265/70/17 and 17x9 with 0 offset. I hate rubbing so it had to be done.

5100's aren't said to be the greatest way to lift your truck, they're just the best cheap way to lift your truck. They're also a very comfortable ride when paired with eibach springs. The reason spacers are hated on is because the stock shocks aren't designed to work with the extension that spacers provide. 5100's are designed to be adjustable to obtain lift and therefor they don't explode when you hit a hole.

The spacers OP has don't provide any "extension". They compress the coil the same as a 5100 "lift" does. There is nothing magical inside a 5100 that makes it any better than a 4600 with a preload spacer. They ARE shiny though :notsure:

I'd be very interested in reading about the "exploding when you hit a hole" though. Got a link?

His stock shocks aren't designed to work with a compression spacer either, read up on it man, there are plenty of guys on here and tons of photos of blown shocks due to top plate spacers and preload spacers because the shocks aren't designed to work with them.

I've seen PLENTY of reports about leaking 5100's even though they were magically designed to operate under conditions that the 4600 somehow wasn't.

I've "read up on it" and have experience with every kind of cheap ass lift out there. I wasn't impressed with anything the 5100 had to offer. They're nothing more than a stock replacement shock that allows you to compress the coil to achieve lift without using a spacer.
