Hey everyone, I got the idea for building a roof mounted light bar for when I get some offroad lights, but I need some advice on how people have theirs mounted/fastened. all mine is a 45" piece of pipe with 7" diamond plate tabs welded on each side. I don't wanna drill holes in my cab unless absolutely necessary, so If you have a picture or idea for me, shoot!

that looks cool, but it looks like you have a shell? I don't have...or want one of those, just somethin that mounts on the roof. But anyways, how do you plan to fasten it down?

No that's a bed rack. It'll come up off the rack so it'll be suspended over the roof basically. Only for lights and light loads

I'm going to solve that problem by getting a tailgate extender .

you should make something that bolts to the bed that comes up that was my origional plan. if you bolt it to your cab onlt using 2 bolts it will rattle like a mofo

Build a headache rack....practical and you wont have to drill holes in your body.

Well I don't like the idea of a rollbar because I need every inch of space in my bed for bikes and I've never been a fan of headache racks. Another kid Jsimp showed me his Yakima rack and I think I got an idea from that. Besides, I wont need it mounted till I get lights, which could be awhile.

have you thought about adding another light to make it even with the cab? IMO it looks a little more fitting. heres mine

and what do you think of my drawing OP? its similiar to 99nmtaco's but with tube and the side pieces go down to the fender well. it wont be in the way of a bike.

Yes I think ill probly do something similar to that. I've never been a fan of headache racks because I think it makes them look like someones company truck. But both yours and 99mntaco's look good. Dunno if ill want a brace going to the fenderwell though.

I was back and forth about how many lights I wanted to have up top, but ultimately I only had enough material to build what I have now. :D If I could I would just take your entire cage setup and lights! lol Ive watched your build progress and a few other TW members as well and it kinda prompted me to build the setup I have with the budget Im on. As for the OP I wasnt a huge fan of headache racks either but I carry a lot of stuff in my bed and cant afford to sacrafice any more room with a roll bar so this setup has been great so far.

well you need some type of bracing going back, and the farther back the more stable it will be. if theres a brace going to the fender well you can still get a bike in, just got to out the handle bars in front of the tube.

well thats understandable! lol the cage and crap has put a huge damper in my build.. but when its done its going to be completely worth it. i already know im going to roll it again and it wont be as nice as last time. its just a matter of time!

im not a fan of headach racks either, i just dont like them. and i used to carry tons of stuff in my bed:( thats honestly the worst part. but oh well were going to build some bins and stuff back there to hold crap
