It’s built in, has 5” more ground clearance than a Tacoma when in the highest off-road setting.

I’ll disagree with the “battery replacement” statement. The amount of trucks needing new engines at 10 years will be very small compared to electric vehicles needing new batteries (or experience such degradation that replacement is required).

I'm gonna keep driving ICE, but remember an electric has like 80% less moving parts. A lot lot lot less to go wrong, no oil changes, not even differentials or gearboxes in most cases. And by the time its battery replacement time, the replacement will probably be an upgrade as well.

Agreed though, current Li tech means something like 10-20% loss of capacity a year, there's no doubt batteries will need replacing by 10 years (likely sooner).

That’s completely false. In the Rivian the battery pack is guaranteed to remain above 70% capacity for 8 years or it’s a free replacement. Teslas are also have an 8 year warranty. These warranties wouldn’t exist if what you claim is true. Empirical data shows about a 2% degradation per year is average across the industry.

Who will replace it if they are out of business?

No one. I’m not concerned about their business longevity though.

When 100k is your entry pont on a new technology that is no where close to being a world product?

At best it's a small niche. Very small.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The current Rivians are expensive but their R2 models are planned to be much cheaper in a couple years. Similar to how Tesla stated off, expensive flagship model followed by cheaper mass produced models. As for niche, 5% US market share and 15% globally for EVs in 2022 and growing. There is a definite market for them.

I wouldn't buy an R1T if I had to look at the price or know what the words trade in mean.

The Rivian looks like a Honda Ridgeline with a front-end straight out of the Disney movie 'Cars'. Yuk.

Coincidently I just ran into a guy leaving the grocery store yesterday in the lot with a new Lightning parked right in front of mine….he had just hung up his phone while hunched over the bed so walking by and asked him if I could have a look. He told me it was dead and waiting for a tow, Second time since he got it and it has 2300 on the clock. The motor failed the first time and was replaced after 8 weeks now he’s thinking the battery is toast as it’s been progressively reducing range for the past few weeks.

Essentially, it’s air suspension If you want to off-road push a button and the ride height increases to 15.5” from the standard 10.5”. Want to drive fast around corners, push a button and it drops down and almost tucks the wheels.

That good! I remember the Dodge Rebel, that thing had adjustable air suspension but once you turned the motor off the truck would sink back down to "normal ride" sitting. My neighbor was installing some power side steps on one of those things and he thought he was going to work on it in the raised position. Nope that thing would not stay aired up. Sounds like the R1T is the way to go.

I don't want to sound like a "kill joy" but I've seen some info about the build quality being pretty shady now that they are ramping up production.
