The used market has begun to cool so i'd imagine the dealership buying your car out is anticipating putting in their used car pack, cleaning it up and listing for sale which can take time to sell. Just shop around the usual suspects and see who offers you the most money over the current offer plus tax credit. Not sure if would be worth selling for anything less than 44k, since you can't bargain with a trade in or lack there of to negotiate off the price of a truck which is non-negotiable right?

Yep. I really don’t get the design. Other than that it seems like a very capable truck.

If you don’t mind the extra cash, this seems 20k under current market for the rivian (since you mentioned you qualify for the tax cred)

    So why not ?

Or throw the Rivian on carsandbids or bringatrailer and keep the Tacoma to buy gas with all the extra cheddar you’ll make from it.

You can only go 100 miles between charging when towing? I can think of many places I go, that aren’t even that remote, that you’ll never be able to visit with that truck. Unless you bring a generator with you doesn’t that mean you are limited to camping no more than 50 miles away from the nearest charge spot?

Also OP, kbb says mid range for that trade in is 48k for a good condition pro in CA. Or 50k for a private sale. Which blows me away how much more trucks are than when I bought my 2016.

When towing my 7000lb trailer, yes. Going 100 miles gives a buffer of about 25 miles to be safe. It’s still possible to get most places in the country but it will be slow going. It’s not something to buy if you want to tow a heavy load a long distance frequently.

I've always been if the mindset to never buy the first generation of anything, let alone the first generation of a relatively new full-scale technology. Think I'll wait until the infrastructure is more advanced and the intricacies are worked out.

No one will give that on a trade. My latest offers were in the 44k range on a much newer truck

OP’s is a ‘21. Can’t get “much newer” than that. I’m not looking to trade mine in. Besides the fact I doubt anyone would take it as a trade, I’d be extremely stupid to trade it in.

I’m just thinking my father in law and his trailer. He takes that pretty much everywhere and there are many spots you won’t be able to go in Utah with a 50 mile range.

I’m glad it works for you though. That range was just surprising.

the ford lighting is the same way.

check youtube, my boss was telling me there's a mainstream channel that does towing tests, and all the ev trucks(ford, gm, rivian) are right around 100mi while towing.

The 23s are out so yes, his is effectively 2 years old and new ones are selling at sticker if you know what you’re doing. Getting over 45k is pretty hard

I mean my Tacoma range is just about 270 miles while not towing … and towing is what ? 8-9 mpg … with 17 usable gallons you’re maybe at 120-130 miles

This was earlier this year when the market was stronger, but I got the best trade in offer on a 2016 VW E-Golf using Driveway.com

They weren’t super fast though, the offer was quick (same day online), I owned it outright and sent the paperwork in immediately and it took 3 weeks for them to review it all and finalize the deal (at the original price I was quoted online on day 1). They partnered with a local dealership down the street from our house that had a “Driveway” rep onsite, he came and collected the car I didn’t even have to be home just told him where I left the key.

Everywhere offered me $13k, they offered $15,800 - thanks to the market, I had the car for 3 years and took it from 26k miles to 44k miles and originally paid $15k.

Trade in offers are much lower now, compared to even 6 months ago. The last couple of months the used car market has dropped significantly. I am trying to sell my 2022 Honda Civic right now, and getting terrible offers. Going to list it private party instead.
