Hi everyone, completely new to the forum, and was hoping to get a little bit of input from this community of Tacoma lovers.

Disclaimer: I'm well aware that new members aren't allowed to sell anything here, and I am not looking to break forum rules. Just looking for advice from folks who know their Tacomas, but feel free to tell me to get lost if I'm breaking a rule I'm unaware of.

My wife and I recently had a kid, and, as fun as my Tacoma is to drive around, it's just not practical at all for us because we can't put a child in it. We're considering selling it and use the money towards a car that will allow us to put the kiddo in. I figured the community here could probably give me a rough assessment of how much I could get for it.

Details about the car itself: 1999 rear-wheel drive Tacoma (2.4 L, base cab) with 55k miles on it. Quite a few scratches on the side from the previous owner who wasn't too worried about the exterior, and some damage to the front and back bumpers (I've driven it around as is for the last 7 years, and never had issues. Only cosmetic AFAICT). The mechanic I took it to last year told me that the truck was "overall, in excellent shape". New tires/brake pads, AC etc. Nothing wrong with the car, just impractical for my purposes. I've attached a few photos, happy to take some more if people think it's needed. Curious to hear what people think. One thing I've thought about is whether it'd be worth getting some body work done before selling, but then I hear that body work gets super expensive, very quickly, so not sure how worth it it would be.

Thanks for the input everyone :)

Don’t put any money into it. Sell it as is. The buyer for that truck is buying Toyota reliability and utility, not a show truck. It’s not worth much. Use local Craigslist and FB Marketplace to get a general idea of value.

Hey, thanks for the prompt response and advice! Just from a quick browse on FB marketplace in my area (Seattle), I'm not seeing anything < $5,000. Granted, the trucks I'm seeing listed "look" a lot better (i.e. no or minimal visible damage to the exterior), but they all have at the very least 2x, and often 3x or 4x the number of miles on this car. I'd personally prefer having a car that looks crappier but is in perfect working condition/low mileage, but I also don't "know" cars, so I guess my question would be, how much I should take off the listing price given cosmetic damage to the exterior? Thanks again for your input :)

In my area, it seems like landscapers are the people primarily buying these trucks. Almost all of them are all banged up from hauling lawnmowers, weedwackers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows & such... If that's also the case in your area, it might not matter much what it looks like on the outside if you get a buyer like this. I'd say list it for a price similar to what you're seeing, but instead emphasize the low miles and it's mechanical condition.
