hi everybody! I’m 19 and this is my first buy from a dealer & need advice. I love it, it’s a 2015 base model tacoma w 136k miles. Clean title other than a minor accident in 2021. it’s looks like the previous owner built it quite a bit. I did ask to make sure it was a base model and it is according to the dealer. they want 22k as is. Feels great on the road. Thoughts? what should i be looking for that could be bad? Thank you guys!!! I’m Excited!

The first thing you should be looking at is the condition of the frame, in particular rust

Yes, frame and make sure all the recalls and TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) were taken care of, read the manual, and heed the words of AMD The Car Care Nut, Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician posting great videos explaining systems for DIY maintenance. 5,000 mile/6 month oil change interval (not 10,000 because oil is cheap; engines are not.)

My best advice here young fella, find a local to you shop that's got solid online reviews, and try and ask around at work, ask the Family, and friends if they've been there and or what everyone says about their service. Then, tell the dealership you want to pay for a PPI, it'll be the best $130-180 bucks you could spend. The independent shop will go through it, like actually hook up a quality scan tool, pull the shields off underneath, and check for everything fuse/relay wise and make sure it's got the jack and all the tools. You can get a solid standpoint on not only the frame, but also what may be needing replacement in the coming x amount of miles, and what may be needed replaced ASAP (hopefully nothing). As long as the last owner did the minimum amount of maintenance, just the recommended stuff, you'll be GOLDEN buying this bad boy. If it's never had a belt replaced, plugs changed nor either diff and transfer emptied and filled, ya might wanna take into serious thought all that and whatever else it WILL NEED ASAP.
