Hmm, weird. I remember that being an issue when i put them in on my jeep. Must be more of a tolerance on tacomas. I am going to be putting mine on very soon.

Just for clarification.. When I did the Shims, I had already purchased the Toytec TSB AAL, Longer U-Bolts, and new Centering pin (That came with the AAL). Maybe it was longer than the stock one? I dunno.. didn't pay attention, but the Shims (3 degree) went on pretty easy, and the centering pin did sit in the whole.. There was not a HUGE amount in the hole, but it was sufficient to keep the axle from moving without being bolted..

    Hope that makes sense.

If you call sufficient 2mm......then yeah it is sufficient. Just don't do too much off roading. If I remember right the head of the bolt is somewhat rounded.....making it even easier to shift. I anybody is about to install shims I would recomend taking a little extra time to add a washer or two for peace of mind.

I installed a Dakar leaf pack and still have a little vibe with CB drop already installed. I was thinking of getting the shims from Toytec, does anyone know if the Dakars centering pin head is a little longer? I don't want to have the same problem as the OP with just a few mm holding the leafpack/shim to the axle. I have already installed the leaf pack and rather not take it off to add washers to the centering pin if not needed, but I do offroad.
    thanks in advance.

Just replace the pins with the ones Toytec sells.. easy to put on and cheap enough, if you don't need them who cares.

Okay so just for clarity, Toytec ships a set of new center pins with every AAL order right?

And these center pins are longer than stock and will safely hold the shims and leafpack to the axle?

My lift kit is in the mail and I want to offroad it once installed.

My pins are super long, I just drilled into the bumpstop to install them! my question is, is the stud (or head) of the centering pin on the Dakars long enough for the Dakars/ shim and axle?

    Toyota's are awesome
We ship small lock washers that extend the bolt head with the center pins if they order the shims and add-a-leafs separately or in a kit that has both, some of the center bolts have a long enough head to go through the shims though.

Shouldn't these whashers come automatically when someone orders the axel shims? I ordered shims, AAL, CB drop and did not get these washers. I had to go to my local hardware store and find some...It was no big deal......I am just saying....

Put my shims in tonight, no problem really. But I couldn't tell if the centering pin went into the hole in the axle. Is there a way I can tell, they seem to sit fine. Oh and while I am at it: whats the torque on the U bolts?

if you are not locked into your centering pin hole on your axle. then you are in for serious problems.....

when you are lining up the axle with the centering pin you should be able to hear & feel the head of the bolt drop into the centering hole....
if your not locked in you could possibly hit a large bump or when you go 4x4ing the axle could move...leading to all sorts of problems....
its a long shot but better safe than real sorry....
just make sure the head of the bolt is in the centering slot on axle....
i hear the guys are using washers on the centering bolt to make the head long enough to slip into the hole.
    good luck

Thanks, I will go out and start again to ensure the centering pin is fully seated.

Ok so I have a Toytec AAL and I'm installing shims.

    The Install.
1.Compress the leaf pack with c clamps

    2. Add the shim between the leaf pack and the axle, thin side towards the front of the truck big middle groove facing up.

3a. If the pin fits through the shim, bolt the u bolts back on and take off clamps

3b. If it doesn't fit put washers in the groove of the shim so the pin has more to hold on to. or buy a bolt and cut it to make it the length of the pin you need. or both. then bolt the u bolts back on and take off clamps

PLEASE correct me if i'm wrong I'm installing it tomorrow and need to make sure I have everything I need and I know how to do it!

    Thank you
