Advise on slider install

Getting sliders this week and was wondering what most of you are doing concerning your welds. Are you running a full bead along both sides and bottom edge of the frame plates or are you running 1" beads-2 per side and 2 on bottom. Your input is appreciated

 

I fully weld the whole frame plate when I install sliders as do most people.

 

Mine are fully welded to the frame

 

I would fully weld them. You want as much strength as possible

how much clearance did you guys leave between the cab and the slider (for cab movement)

 

Welding is the preferred method on 1st Gen. frames because they are boxed-section, single-walled. The 2nd Gen. frame is C-section, double-walled. If welding is the only form of attachment, all the loads will be on the outer wall. You should have at least two bolts through the frame per flange, to spread the load to the inner wall too. Notice most of the OEM brackets, spring shackles, etc. are riveted?

I think you are supposed to size the gussets to meet strength requirements, then notch the pinch weld at the bottom of the cab if necessary. At least that's what All-Pro instructions advise.
