Getting ready to buy the afe gt intake. They have both dry s filter and a oiled filter! Stick with the dry filter (maf) sensor? K&N intake is 269 vs 450. Is the afe that much better. I like how its enclosed and sealed and uses side pocket for air. Looking for sound improvements. Anyone chime in on dry or oil filter from afe?

I always use a dry filter. Love the intake, have had it on for months
and not a single complaint. Sound is perfect.

    Way to much...but not enough.
Dry filter all the way. Definitely notice a bit more get up and go (seat of pants dyno) especially with ECT on. Love the sound, its got a nice burble when you are cruising, but will growl when you jump on it and get it up around 4 grand. Overall I'm happy with it!

Just a question... everyone on TW say intakes do not add any HP and always make fun of people wanting to add them. So if everyone with a 3rd gen knows 100% that it doesn't add HP then companies like AFE cannot post ads like or they can be sued!

Some pillow company just got sued for 10million for claiming to be the only pillow you will ever need.

AFE is clearly stating UP TO +17HP increase.

Zero falls in the realm of "up to +17hp".

I understand that but, if literally every single 16-17 Tacoma is getting 0HP then how did they come up with +17HP? And if the company knows it is adding 0hp to every single 16-17 Tacoma then that would false advertising

Because they can easily manipulate a dyno or even the conditions on a dyno to provide a dyno that shows a 17hp gain. If you've ever worked on cars and took your own personal car to a dyno you would know that no intake would EVER produce 17hp on a stock motor like ours. "Optimal conditions, etc". They have their asses covered.

If you do go out and buy it, do 2 tests. Do a 3 baseline runs at the dyno and the same day, install the air intake and do another 3 runs on the dyno. Let us know if it makes an average of 17hp.

I came from the mercedes crowd manufactures sold carbon fiber airboxes to the AMG mercedes crowd for 2500 dollars for 2-3hp gain on a 451hp motor. What actually netted the most hp gain was using OEM air boxes (Rest Of World) from Europe or Asia that had less restrictions than stock.

17HP isn't a lot to begin with. Plus, they probably measure that at at the crank which will translate to even less at the wheel. Take all that into consideration and all the people saying they don't feel a difference isn't too far fetched.

I put one on my truck in preparation for a supercharger. From 0-3700 RPMS there is absolutely no increase in performance. From 3700 to red line I can feel a minimal gain performance. My catback exhaust did about the same thing. It is noticeable but unless you floor it from every red light or stop sign to get up to speed you will never really benefit from the improvement. I did seem to get about 1MPG better with the exhaust and intake combo though.

Note: "up to" in the hp claims. This statement is true if you gain .5 hp. You can likely gain a small amount of hp at the top of the RPM band. The rest is cool sound and looks.

Thanks everyone! Rlx and zscott thanks for the helpful right ups... I am not a mechanic but I do enjoy cars and trucks!

I don't plan on buying an intake but, was mainly wondering how these companies are able to advertise like that and get away with it.

Like I mentioned earlier the pillow company just got sued for a shit ton of money for claiming you won't need another people ever again and that was 20$ product.

These intakes are selling for 300-400$... just crazy how these companies market like this and get away with it!

If it weren't for forums like this, I can't imagine how many people would be tricked into thinking they're getting more HP!

Love the sound still after ~2 months. I knew it was just going to be sound, but coming from a 5.4L V8 to the V6...I just needed to hear something.

But should improve throttle response. I have a 6 speed manual and sometimes when you push the clutch in revs hang a little bit.

Video taking too long. My truck sounds mean with the aero turbine 2525. Just ordered the afe intake comes with the free air scoop. So guess we will see what 426 bucks does besides looks

This isn't me/my truck, I'm at work. These are the videos I watched prior to getting it, and it's the same in mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjK8kFy1dQY, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6QfJ9WZdwo

In person you can hear more on the low end than the video shows, say sub-3k RPM...but just a bit louder than stock. It sounds best off the line while climbing gears or when above 2.5-3k RPM. I'm running the oiled filter, just because I like it better for the dust and ash near me.

Yeah I love mine with the magnaflow exhaust! It may not have added power (some may say) but it sure changes how the power band responds .

Im hoping i dont loose low end. Right now my truck has decent low end grunt. I dont have to wrap the engine up to get power like i do in my corolla
