Not trying to hijack your thread, I'm doing the same.
Congrats. Like your story from 20 years ago. Our '04 Pre-Runner, 192667 on the odo, is going to our granddaughter in FL, Aqua-Farming student.
Complete upgrade all Toyota maintenance has been done, running as new. I have my eye on another '04, 4WD.

    Awesome story.

My daughter was born in March 1997, and purchased our 1st Gen in August 1997. Then in 2017, I purchased my new 2017 TRD DCSB Offroad Taco. My son was born in 2001 and he has the 1st Gen now with 250k on the clock. My daughter now 24 purchased a slightly used 2017 RAV4 same color (white) as my 2017 Taco.

Whew... I was worried until I read that you were keeping the 1st gen.
Bought my 99 on 07 with 27k miles
Sold it to dad 7 years later
Bought it back from dad when he wanted a 3rd gen and was going to sell it to a high school kid with a learners permit.
The 99 only has 145k now, still running like a champ.

What a WONDERFUL post/story!!! My best friend bought his 2002 TRD Off Road 4x4 Tacoma brand new - and he drove it daily till he decided he was going to give it to his son (going into college). His son did not want it but rather wanted a Mustang GT. My buddy really loved his truck so he asked my son if he wanted to buy it - for 3,500 bucks. It had a lot of miles (I think 220K - now it has 250K). Before my buddy sold it to my son, he put on a new timing belt/water pump, clutch, rear seals, tires. He thought my son would love and use it, as we have a horse farm - surrounded by a river - AND he was headed off to college and he needed a dependable truck. My son bought it - and the weekend after the purchase we were doing a Blacksmithing exhibition, and he was offered 11K for the truck - LOL. He did not sell it as he knew what a deal he had. That was almost 2 years ago now and my son LOVES the truck! My buddy has visited our farm a few times when my son was home from school and he LOVES seeing his truck being enjoyed/appreciated. I certainly hope your truck stays in your family as I can clearly see you have terrific memories. BTW you new truck LOOKS awesome!!!!!!!! Goodness the red is sharp. I've attached a pic of my son's truck next to mine as we were out doing work on our property.

Just to continue, I set about tinkering a bit today. I put in a Fumoto valve:

I’ve never tried one but I think I’m going to like it. I also changed out the plastic oil filter housing for an aluminum one:

I’ve broken the ears off of a plastic one before, and the dealer is about 40 minutes away. I don’t have too many miles on the truck yet, but the oil was dark enough. And then I screwed on my TRD skid plate:

I was using the wide-angle lens to capture the under-body shots. I also mounted the Talon catalytic protector:

It’s nicely made. I ordered stainless steel security fasteners from a third party:

And I cut the “wings” to accommodate the stock plastic drain pieces:

I also installed the LED bed lights, and I have a bed mat to put in, too. Thanks for stopping by! :)
