i have to walk around my truck to the passsenger side to let my son out, and within the past 2-3 weeks i have smelled an antifreeze smell, but i see no visable leaks. i've popped the hood and havent noticed anything. Is that normal? Do any of you guys have that problem or have noticed it before. And this is with the truck still running or the truck off.

If it was over filled, some may run out the breather/overflow tube. I have had that happen in the past, and the scent was pretty strong.

Make sure the passenger side floor isn't wet. Could be heater core.

Had the same smell from a '07 Rav4 and occasionally from the '08 FJC. I think the smell comes from the reserve bottle vent. The coolant gets heated to the engine operating temp. Some of the coolant gets pulled out of the bottle during engine operation and when the engine is turned off, some of the coolant is returned to the reserve bottle. Since it is "hot", the coolant gives off the odor and that's released from the vent.

Have you checked your overflow tank? Is it still full?

I've been loosing fluid in my truck and discovered 'residue' around the radiator cap. I told the dealer about it and they changed the radiator cap and refilled my overflow tank. I still smell it...but can't see any obvious leaks - atleast not yet. I've been keeping an eye on it.

Check your overflow tank and make note of how much is in there. If its low - take the truck to the dealer. Inspect the radiator cap and all hoses for 'residue' in & around the connections. If its a minor leak, you won't see any fluid at all because it evaporates almost immediately and will leave a pink or crusty/dusty residue.
