I've never heard of anyone stealing sliders. Whole trucks, yes. Expensive lights, yes (even before LED pods security bolts for your lights have been around). Stolen catalytic converters, definitely. But not sliders or bumpers. What a PITA that would be for what is presumably to be sold for scrap.

Never even thought of sliders getting stolen since it was take a while to undo them.

So much else on our trucks to steal much faster: catalytic converters, tailgate, wind shield wipers, antenna, tire valve caps, bed cubby door covers.

And if you spot weld them, it will take even longer. It's not hard to do. Anyone near Topanga/San Fernando Valley, I don't mind doing it for you. As for the owner, a Dremel can take care of that when you need to take them off for a fix or whatnot. Yes, they can have a Dremel too. In that case, you're making it harder for them and it's going to take longer. Depending where the vehicle is and how bad they want them, they'll tend to ditch for another that will be less of a hassle.

if you weld them on they will have to take the entire truck.

Dude, anytime man. I hear your fear loud and clear here in L.A. My biggest hate are thieves of all spectrums.

The best thing to do is spot weld where it will be hidden and not easily found. If it can't be done that way, have your buddy put a few spot welds in crucial fastening areas and it will give you a lot of security, mental wise. Remember, a few grinds is all it will take on your end hanging out in the garage. You got the time, they usually don't.

Been a while since I wheeled off road! This past '12 TRD off road I had I didn't off road that much. Just a lot of pulling people out. The previous 2008' OR, geez, I was at Gorman almost every day after work AND coming home late at night, then going to work, and doing the same thing the next day. Them where the days and was I hooked! Did you ever get to wheel Angeles National Forest near the small Tujunga area? There was this one area that had the most gnarly moguls. That unfortunately was shut down due to the fires.

yeah definitely dont plan to take them off if ever but i like the idea of it being easily ground off without touching the frame. i like the idea someone gave of using 2 nuts on the end of the bolt and welding the 2nd.
    haha thats awesome.
i had a 2005 4x4 sr5 before and have been and still go to gorman and fraizer park mostly, been to bouquet reservoir recently in that area but not sure about where you mean.

Yeah, that's more meat they have to cut through.

The entrance is south of Tujunga. But they closed that area several years ago and it's still not open. Angeles had some nice spots. I doubt they'll ever reopen.

11A7A605-6BB7-469B-9F18-E7B74E793A05.jpg Madmanxing, I highly recommend this trick. Saved me once. Got out of work and found the tailgate down. Epoxy the nut and rear thread if slotted.

Where I live I worry more about bears stealing my trash than I do some dumbass stealing parts. With that said, when I wanted to make something tamperproof on a machine I designed I would just use Loctite Red 2620...;)
Trust me, they won't remove that bolt unless they bring torches.
