I recently installed my headstrong lift. 5100's and OME springs with Dakar leaf spring. I noticed that recently when i am backing out or coming to a stop when I first start driving in the morning it makes a clicking noise in the front end. I was wondering if it had something to do with the brakes but i haven't touched them since I've owned it. Have any of you had the similar problem? it old happens at low speeds most of the time just coming to a stop in reverse or drive. Please any help would be appreciated. This is an annoying problem to have maybe i am just being weird after getting the lift on.

CV axle. Check the rubber boot on the side you hear the clicking look for grease.

I checked and there is no grease leaking out of the rubber boot on the CV axle.

Was just thinking that it may be the sway bar making contact with the coil. Just another item to check to be sure.
    What size OME spring, btw?

Another thing to check are the torque values of the bolts. Be sure to check the alignment cam bolts too.

addition: did you get it aligned yet?

First thing that I did the day after I did the lift. The OME coils are the 886

The reason for asking is that right after my lift went in and alignment done, I started to get this strange metallic click when going from a start. Asking here (@GHOST SHIP ) suggested the cam bolt torque values. He was spot on. Torqued them up and took it back to my alignment shop. The tech asked me how I came up with that possibility. Told him I had a very knowledgeable friend. :anonymous:

I would check the sway bar. Seems to me like it could be touching. I haven't heard of those springs ever doing that, but every truck has their own unique issues.
Best of luck finding the gremlin.

I had a clicking or clacking noise in the front end when going forward or reverse slowly and applying the brake . Turned out to be the calipers . Toyota said it was normal .As soon as I put Powerstop rotors and pads on the noise went away . Could it be your pads are worn ?

Retaining springs help that too. I added an extra on each side the last time I did the brakes.

Since your truck is a 2012, I'm willing to bet it's the notorious Tacoma "brake click". Which is a "normal" charm of these trucks. Although it could certainly be something else, that's the easiest solution (well, second easiest- see below). If your brake pads are worn and close to needing replacement but not contacting the wear sensor yet, then the brake pads will shift ever so slightly in the calipers when changing directions for the first time (forward to reverse or vise versa). The second set of retaining springs that @DrFunker posted help in some situations, but may not make the noise go away completely. I added them to mine and they reduced the noise, but it was still there. The noise only completely went away when I changed out my pads. It may have been present on your truck before the lift but it went unnoticed. When we do any modification to the suspension of our trucks, I know I'm a lot more attentive to noises or creaks or groans from the truck which could be an indicator that I fucked something up.

If it is the LCA cam bolts also as suggested by the Good Doctor, the "click" is a lower register (the sound has a deeper tone to it). Kind of hard to explain via text, but the difference between the brake click and the LCA click is almost like the noise went through puberty (*click vs. *CLICK). That's the best way I can explain it. Give the cam bolts a once over with your torque wrench or just use the German scale: Güdentite! This is by far the cheapest solution because all you're doing is tightening some nuts.

Good luck. Be sure to report back what you find. The more of these threads there are, the more information we can pass around as owners and increase the knowledge base for future questions that come up.
