    none yet
I have zero experience at evaluating or using an aftermarket computer modifier (I've always heard them called "chips") that could affect horsepower and shift points.

However, in looking for one at places folks have suggested, there are none that I've found for the 16 Tacoma yet. Anyone know of such a thing in existence yet?

Objective is to improve the shift points and hopefully low-end power of my TRD-OR 4wd. (please don't say "it will improve when it learns your driving"...after 10K miles, if that's the case, the truck needs special ed).

From what I've read on other posts about this on here Toyota encrypted the code making it very difficult to allow changes to the mapping.

Set of gears will get you the low end you're after. You are never going to get low end diesel torque out of a low displacement DOHC direct injection, naturally aspirated, gas engine.

I've driven a 2016 ecoturd 3.5 as well as my 2016 taco. The taco has much better seat of the pants bottom end with ECT on.

I work on GMs. I put more miles on customer cars than my own most of the time. Any engine In a 1500 GM blows the 2.7/3.5 ecoturd out of the water. I put 1500 miles on a 2016 rental. I've yet to see the fascination

The previous gens really only ever had MAF hacks that trick the ECU to running rich. That and the one reflash for the supercharger.

Toyotas simply aren't known for being tuning friendly. The best you can do is run stock tires and never lift it.

I lost so much power with my duratracs :(

It's because back in the day "chipping" a car actually meant you would take the ECU out of the car and replace the stock ROM chip with an EEPROM chip (one that can be reprogrammed), such that you could flash in new fuel tables. We're talkin' old school, with ECU's running at a blazing 4 MHz and having super low res spark and fuel maps.

Nowadays cars have much fancier electronics. Cars come from the factory with re-programmable chips because if there's ever a recall or TSB that needs new logic, it's way easier to have a tech hook up a diagnostic cable and reprogram it, than pull the ECU and solder in a replacement ROM chip. They just encrypt it to keep us nosy bastards out.

I'm holding off on buying an ultragauge because of the lack of PIDs. I dunno if I can wait that long!

Which I refuse to ever put on a car. That "learning" ECU we're talking about might not be very smart, but it is smart enough to know that its MAF signal is off, and so it will always be trying to normalize itself back to the stock parameters that it's looking for, so it will slowly but surely chip away and "learn" that the MAF signal is wrong based on what it sees from the O2 sensor. It will actually learn how to get less power around a MAF hack. Total mind-f*ck, I know.

New to the forum, but interested in this topic as I was searching today on performance chips. Just got off chat with BullyDog, there chips are only 49 state certified and CA (where I'm at) has been pending for 9 months. They even went to EPA to conduct tests. I'm sure others could chime in, but Tacoma mileage is not what Toyota claims (23/24 MPG hwy). Even when my TRD Sport (2014) was stock before weighty enhancements, I was getting only 20 MPG on the hwy, using 91 octane as Toyota used in their tests. Now, I get about 19. Just met a guy with a 2016 Taco, 2WD, and he said he gets about 17 Hwy. I interested in the chip as I do tow and off-road. Increased performance while towing would be great. Anyone recommend a CA certified chip?

In CA, the performance companies have to jump through many hoops. Earlier this year, K&N, just got their open box cold air intake DOT approved for CA. In CA, is the moving of the filter that was causing the hold up. The state has realized, it truly doesn't affect the emissions.

I was getting 18 - 19 when I first got it, then after some miles and (I assume) some break-in, I gradually started seeing 21 - 22. Now that things have warmed up outside, I'm getting 23 - 24 consistently as long as I take it easy on the loud pedal. Just a guess, but I think part of that may be the summer formulated gas and the warmer weather. I also added a hard cover to my bed, for whatever that was worth.
