I'm totally with you on this. This dipstick is the hardest one I've ever read.

I've pulled it out, cleaned it, put it back several times and still hard to read. I've tried leaving it out for a few minutes also, and same story - you get that stupid thin line on the one side, and can't easily tell what the level is.

Hit the end with some sandpaper to rough it up. That will make it easier to read the level.

I hate it too. I'm thinking of putting some holes where the dimples are. you can 't go wrong with that.

mini antenna... I'm getting to it! Sheesh!
I just changed my oil this weekend and have the same issue. My 2001 was not like this. But I knew I used the correct amount of oil for the change, so I'm just trusting things as I see plenty of oil on the dipstick...

I'm going to try leaving it out for a few minutes and cleaning it well... if that fails Ill try roughing it up. but its definitely useless, hahaha!

does anybody here feel that the 6.1 quarts refill figure for the 2TR-FE 4 cylinder engine in the 2005+ tacomas is incorrect? I can only get a little over 4 3/4 quarts in. I think the over filling of oil to 6.1 quarts like the OWNERS MANUAL says is what made my rear main seal start leaking, anybody having the same problem?

or you could use common sense and point the dipstick down and not up so the oil doesnt run down. not too difficult.

I have the same issue. I just got the Toyota Care "free service" done on mine. First oil change. I cant tell sh*t about the oil level. I've been out there 4 different times waiting to make sure the oil has all settled and still keep getting the same readings. It has a break just above the full line then goes fully back across the ds and then has the line up one side, EVERY TIME I try it. It looks overfilled to me, so I'm a little worried. Every vehicle I've had did the line up the side to the best I can remember but this one is a pita.

And before anyone thrashes me for bringing up an old thread, hey search worked. ;)
