Nice to see someone else who doesn't subscribe to the myths about "you can't improve xxx on these trucks".

    Yes. :)

The blue line is with an Injen intake, LCE header, and stock exhaust.

The red line is with an Injen intake, LCE header, stock exhaust, and spacer.

The header lowered the torque peak by 650rpm from 3,800rpm to 3,150rpm...

...and the spacer lowered it another 250rpm to 2,900rpm.

By trail and error, I found the best power/mileage combination for my 2.7 is an intake, a header, and leaving the rest of the exhaust system stock.

When I installed a free flowing muffler I lost low end torque, so I reinstalled the stock muffler.

Well, I'm sorry Greg but your expensive purpose built piece of engineering known as a dynomometer is obviously incorrect since u will only see tiny crappy changes at best my friend..... It appears you and I must be delusional. Go take your medication and report back to the mental health facility asap, then sue dynojet. There's no way u will increase the effective tq range to be more efficient with any bolt ons.

I'm on my second tacoma. First was 1999 that I bought new and modded with pretty much everything at one time or another for 14 years. Toyota bought it back due to frame rust. New tacoma is exact same truck down to the black color with alpine nav/dvd, tint, de-badged, and softopper, so far.
The only way to effectively tweak the 2.7 is with a blower or nitrous. Believe me I've tried just about everything over the years including a complete headers on back exhaust system plus a K&N intake and a worthless chip. Most bang for the buck was a nitrous system on my 99 set for a 40 hp boost and only used for passing and merging onto the super slab. Why o why doesn't Toyota put a six in the regular cab?

How about grades when ya gotta down shift?

I know I pull hard around 3k but my truck is a little different.
Some of us are near large grades and or canyons.

    Merging may be easier too.

Good point. On my truck 3,000 is 90 mph and I never drive that fast. You can really feel the difference going through the gears when you want to accelerate faster by taking the engine above the ~2,000 rpms of normal driving.
