It was when there was still lots of first genners, the first gen section was shit talk central.

See I've only been lurking the last 2 years or so, and only made an account last November haha. I swear, during that time the 1st gen forums are like a church service. The Tacoma is our god, and we shall worship It together :amen:

I like to think the first gen is perfect so there’s no need to mod, that’s why no aftermarket support. Or so I lied to myself everyday

It fits nicely in my garage with some room to spare. That's the important part to me.

Just sold my 1997 with 313K on the clock - hope the (new to me 2016) lasts as long. Couple mods I did, my 1997 was mostly stock, retrofitted gen 2 power mirrors, four runner leather steering wheel and lighted rear view mirror consolette. Agree with OP, parts are getting scarce...I already miss the size of my 1997 Taco, this 2016 is yuuge! But the improved brake and soundproofing are awesome improvements. I thought the 1st gen brakes were a liability.

i have 'crawl control' when stopped in bumper to bumper freeway traffic
just let the clutch out slowly with nothing but idle (no pedal) to creep up in traffic, took some practice to not stall it but it my own personal wonderland at times, usually hold traffic up a few car lengths and just crawl on forward and repeat process :)

not sure any of you with DC can replicate this like us MTs can?

when I got mine it was touted as having the most ground clearance in its class than any comparable chevy ford dodge compact (not sure about Nissan) which meant that i could go 'most' places on stock other than some of the extreme off-roading adventures and hazards which were probably better suited to the full size off-road trucks
i have never met a city snow challenge I could not handle other than Christmas morning in 2oo9 after the mini-massive blizzard on the Eve the city plowed in all the residential streets with snow that was a bit higher than my front hood ... I just could not make it down the street to the plowed main road

Opportunity to make money is much less since less on the road...However, I love seeing 1st Gen Builds. Gotta keep a lookout on craigslist, and the marketplace on here to find parts.

I saw the title of this thread and thought man I feel the same. I know I'm playing the wishing game, but it's amazing to me how many aftermarket parts there are for old Fords, Dodge, BMW's, etc, but little to choose from for Toyota's and the older Nissan's / Datsun. I've always wanted to rebuild an early 1980's model 280zx (love the inline 6) but after researching, I found it's extremely difficult to find parts.

    My dream car!!

Please. Try and find anything for a T100 and then complain to me about aftermarket support.

looking at that now i feel 15yrs old looking for my 1st used car and wanting one of those so bad, but my paper route money I was saving for a car could not touch the going price on even a 10yr old model of that so had to step it down a couple models to something in the $1200 range
