After new tires and shocks, ride has bounce and vibration, is this normal?

I agree spitdog, I read the reviews and thought it was a great tire to pick. I've never had any vehicle ride like this and it has me stumped. Last mechanic who came highly recommended checked shocks, said they were tight and good. Couldn't find anything wrong, but thought it might be the suspension arm controls. That's when he sent me to the dealer to confirm, but got it's your tires instead. Frustrating.

Man they ate their Wheaties before they tightened that back shock. Look at the bushing!

Well, unless the tires are unbalanced in some way that won't cause vibration.
Bounce is caused when suspension or tires are squishy. And or when the shock can't return the spring to the normal spot quickly.

Those monroe strut assemblys probably have a different spring rate than stock.
Shops often use cheap struts so a customer won't complain about price and make more money. Not saying that's what the shop did, but monroe is a economy brand, really any brand with complete assemblys are.
Some good or goodish ones are bilstiens, rancho, fox, kings, oem, and a number of other brands.

Not recommending all what this youtuber says but scotty kilmer on youtube has a good video explaining what the problem with cheap premade strut assemblies give

Since you noted the rusty shock and it was supposed to be new, I wonder if someone before you experienced the same thing and returned them.

Thanks for easing my mind about the U joints. So Natetroknot it's sounding like the problem may be the Monroe's. Yep, I thought that was a crayon answer from the dealer :) When this started I had several discussion with Tire Kingdom regarding these shocks, unfortunately after they were put on. I was not given a choice, assumed that they put on what was originally there, and you know what they say about assuming :/ There will be no refunding coming from them.

I'd guess probably not, many economy brands come with rust out of the box. Things rust really quickly, and maybe have been on the auto parts shop shelf for years.

Not really a fault of the shop. Probably not a Tacoma specific mechanic, and there is no reason for someone who wrenches on every type of car would think Monroe isn't sufficient for a daily driver. They did the install right. That part is good, but it would've been better for you if they had the experitse to recommend a higher quality replacement similar to the OEM Bilstein.

Are you gonna keep the truck for a while?

This is probably right, if it were me I would buy some bilstiens off rock Auto and swap em, but it know not everyone can or is comfortable, so not exactly sure what to say.

Spitdog when I questioned them about the condition of these shocks, I received several replies. 1. I live by the beach and they claim the rust can happen overnight on thee parts. They aren't budging on this response. I previously had "dust covers" on the rear shocks that were thrown out. 2. As they were being put on, the paint got scratched, they offered to paint them for me. 3. I was told they're new, but look old, must have been delivered from the shop they came from that way.

Those are new shocks. Can't guarantee someone didn't install and return them as stated above, but they definitely don't have miles on them. If it rained once after install, or you got your truck washed, that kind of rust in instantaneous.

I love my truck. People have suggested I trade it in. I'm not ready for that yet. So the consensus I'm reading is bump up to a better shock, which should even out the ride. 'Cuz I do like the tires.

Remember that's not guaranteed the problem, I'd really just find someone who knows what thier doing to get a first hand opinion first before your drop some money on new shocks.

Also, at what point in this pain-in-your-ass experience did you get an alignment?

Alignment being out wont cause a shimmy, but it's all part of the big picture

Shit man, the winter is upon us and Florida life sounds quite fortunate to me!!

I was gonna offer to get you fixed up with Billy's

Thought that counts. Hate to see you shell out more coin to make you and the truck happy. But don't get rid of it because of this issue - very, very easily fixable.

my $0.02, if you’re not mechanically inclined...

sell that crap on eBay, get something halfway decent and take it to a good, local shop that does tires, suspensions, alignments.

Natetroknot, at the beginning when the tires where changed out. Also again after the 2nd (3rd from the original) balancing. Showed it was a little out of alignment. It was crazy when I first started driving. Truck was trying to drive over huge rocks that where there. Steering was a little different, meaning it felt like the tires were not hitting the ground at the same time. Hence, many trips back to the shop. Gradually it's getting better, but I'm not taking it over 60 anymore. At 15 mph and above I feel very bump, crack and crevice on the road surface. Sometimes at 45+ a higher bounce, most times a smaller constant closer to the ground bounce/vibration. Minor vibration in the seat, floor and sometimes gas pedal.

MNMLST you would cry if you knew how much they charged me for this. Natetroknot I hear ya, it should be an easy fix and less expensive than trading it in. After Tire Kingdom I did go to a mechanic that was recommended to me by one of my patients. He couldn't find anything wrong with it, don't think he test drove it though. I stated I would pay to have these shocks replaced, but he stated he didn't want to start replacing things if he didn't know that it was exactly the problem. Hence he referred me to the dealer. Frustrating, I appreciate everyone's input :)

I run 10 ply tires in 265/75/16 on my basically stock ‘15 with 30,000 miles. They don’t stay planted as well as the stock size D rated tires, but that’s mainly a shock issue since there is more unsprung weight to control. A set of digressive shocks is on the list to solve this issue for my pickup. Probably a set of Bilstein 5100’s.

To be clear, I don’t have any issue with vibration or bounce at any speed in a straight line. But, washboard, potholes and the like I lose traction on because my heavy tires become airborne.
