Ok, so I apologize if I didn't search hard enough on this. Has anyone hooked up an aftermarket alarm with their factory keyless entry system? I don't really want to have a different key fob if possible and I don't want remote start just a simple alarm system. I might be picky but, most of the aftermarket key fobs are bulky and why bypass and re-install a door entry system if I don't need to?

I'm also a little concerned about the shock sensor as I have a Golden Retriever who likes to ride when the weather is nice and he would possibly be in the back seat with the windows partially rolled down for a few minutes while running errands.

I've looked at the Viper 330V, Hornet 727T (which I think is the same as the Viper), as well as the Code Alarm CA3051. They all look like they would work and I'm seeing people who have them working on other makes & models but no one seems to have done this with a Tacoma.

    Any suggestions?? 2011 PreRunner SR5 V6 DCSB...

Nobody? Really??? I guess I might be alone with this one huh...

For another thought what about the units that interface with the CAN-Bus?

I have a viper and it works with my keyless factory. I can still reuse my factory keyless but I choose not to. I rather just use one single fob and carry. No issues at all.

Thanks for the reply. Does the system arm and disarm when you use the factory remote? The ones that I'm looking at don't even come with more key fobs, they simply use your remote. Call me crazy but, I'd just rather use the one's I have...

    Not enough...
Aftermarket alarms tap into your lock/unlock wires and add some other bells and whistles like engine kill, shock sensor, etc.

I don't believe you will be able to use factory keyfob to arm/disarm the aftermarket alarm. You will need the keyfob that came with the alarm. You will still be able to use factory keyfob to lock/unlock like you do now.

Btw, not all aftermarket keyfobs are bulky. Even if you buy a Viper alarm that comes with bulky fob, you can still get a smaller viper fob from Amazon. Its actually smaller than OEM one.

My good friend installs aftermarket alarms for dealers and the systems he uses can be run with the factory key fob.
