Are there any aftermarket auto shifters for the Tacoma? Or a universal shifter that would work?

I don't know if there is a race or performance shifter that I could replace the stock shifter with. Not just a shifter knob the whole shifter.

For an automatic? Most people just replace the knob and are happy with that.

    Currently? No.

But hey, you can be a trend-setter and change the community. Buy and install a B&M Megashifter, figure it all out on your own; from mounting to trim panels. Then come back and provide the write-up, detailing how it's all done. Do it. Be the rockstar you've always thought yourself to be.

The shifter is what is causing me issues, the knob won't make the shifter internals anymore reliable.

Might help if you told us what the issue is with shifter.

Taking a stab in the dark here, but; It's not releasing from Park anymore, right? Or when you select a gear, it's not fully engaging that gear position, or wants to sit between two gear positions on the shifter?

If not releasing from Park; Have you verified your brake lamps illuminate, when you step on the brakes?
If not fully engaging a gear position; Have you checked the shift cable adjustment?

I highly doubt the shifter assembly itself is the culprit to whatever malady you're experiencing.

I've had to replace the NSS twice in two years. I believe it is because of the shifter and cable combination. Adjusting the shift cable will likely fit the problem, but I believe I'll be going through the process again. Last time the bushing at the end of the cable had deteriorated and the bolt that connects the cable to the shifter was loose. I replaced the bushing last time with an aftermarket one and kept tweaking the bolt position to adjust the cable and tension. If there is a better or proper way to adjust the cable Ill give that a try. But I still would like to replace the whole thing to avoid having to replace another $200 NSS.

The sifter is still stiff and I believe needs adjusted if not something else also. The light on the dash hunts for the gear position and I have to hunt for it with my hand when shifting. Most noticeable with the drive positions. It gets too tight to get down to 2nd and 1st.

Sounds like your shift cable is adjusted wrong, to put it bluntly. Disconnect the cable from the shifter, and see if it moves easily through all of the gear positions.
    - If it still binds trying to go into 2nd and 1st, suspect the shifter may be worn out.
    - If it moves easily through all positions, suspect the shift cable is worn/binding, or adjusted incorrectly.

You are looking for a Lokar component Desert Racing type shifter. It can be modified and installed in your Tacoma. Good luck.

Any aftermarket shifter could be modified and installed. But if OP doesn't know how to adjust the shift cable correctly, how's a fancy shifter going to solve anything?

Aside form being able to whore out unrelated pics of it at every opportunity, looking all pretty in his driveway/garage. :jerkoff:

one good option is to grab impact gun, sockets, extensions, etc.
    remove trans from vehicle
    throw into garbage
    and install manual 6-speed RA60F

I got it working correctly. But would still like a better solution. Converting some of the options mentioned would be awesome, but I don’t know that it would be worth the trouble it sounds like it would be. Thinking TacoTuesday1 has a good point, but I’ll probably wait tell the auto completely fails. It would pair nicely with my FJ shifter.
