Aftermarket bumpers and such..

Need to do a little fixing after hitting a deer. Good news is I replaced the duct tape with gorilla tape and it doesn’t look quite as trashy.

I’m sure it’s been asked 100 times, but where have you had the best luck finding this stuff?

Hopefully the bumper mount welded to the frame was not damaged/bent. PITA to mount new bumper when the mounting points dont mate up.

Just replaced the 3 piece bumper on my 03 DC. Picked up all of the pieced off Amazon for under $150 and was able to reuse all of the hardware from the previous bumper (there are so many damn nuts, bolts, clips, etc.). I would go to RockAuto for the grill, headlights, blinks and side markers versus buying them off Amazon. You can also pick up the grill fillers on there as well. Good luck!

 

For the love of god don't buy your auto parts from a website that sells books and games.

Half the time Amazon tells me a part fits when I know it doesn't, or visa-versa.

@16 Bore, what kind of bumper are you looking for? Just a stock replacement? Or are you wanting to go with an aftermarket off-road style bumper?

For stock replacements Rockauto is a good place to start, or maybe a junk yard.

But as Black dog said, hopefully your frame brackets aren't bent. If that's the case, you'll need to address that first before you try and fit ANY bumper.

 

Thought about something a little different than what was on there. Wouldn’t mind a black grill. But I’m a cheap ass too...

 

Haven’t really pulled anything apart yet.

 

Cant tell if mount brackets are bent without a new bumper to use to check, Only takes 1/8 to 1/4 to make bumper match up very difficult. The mount brackets are welded to frame and are an impact absorber/crush zone.

 

I can second rockauto.com for vehicle replacement parts on the cheap.

 

I’m sure it won’t be easy...but I’ve jimmyriggin skills.

 

After looking more closely, mount bracket IS bent.

 

Probably.....course I don’t even know what’s behind the duct tape yet.

 

Oh yeah, I know. I ended up getting some heat warp on my CBI bumper when welding it together and it made fitment and absolute nightmare. Actually had to cut it apart and re-weld. It was only off buy 1/8" or so.
