At 150k miles, I have busted CV boots on my 2010 tacoma. There is quite a price difference between the oem cv axles and aftermarket ones.

Does anyone have experience replacing these with one or the other? I did a search and it seemed like some highly recommend the oem; I assume this is just better quality?

Yep, you get what you pay for..

Keep in mind, it's not like you're guaranteed to have a problem if you go aftermarket, you're just opening the door to potential problems

Yeah, sounds like a good rule of thumb. I'll likely spend the money to see if I can get another 150k out of them.

Check out CVJ axles. They're OEM axles rebuilt to better than factory spec.

Another big vote for CVJ axles! I just bought replacements for my truck. I ordered on Friday and they arrived on the following Wednesday! They build your axles to order, and they only use OEM cores. They have a choice of greases, talk to them about that. I got the "race grease". They also have custom boots designed for high angle use. I chose them over new axles for the grease and the boots. Saved a chunk of money too. Great people to deal with.

My shop uses Napa cv axles all of the time and they never come back. We normally use the new ones, not the remans. They may be fine too, but we stick with what we know is reliable.

Rebuild your OEM Toyota CV's with new boots. No aftermarket CV I've used on any of my Toyota's was ever as good as the factory part (I went through a pair a year of Napa remans for quite a while on my 3" lifted 1st gen due to the boot tearing. The weird vibration I got from them, too, instantly disappeared after I reinstalled a Toyota set a few years later.)

    So consensus is:
    OEM
    CVJ
    New NAPA, not reman

The main reason I chose CVJ OVER OEM is because of the better boots and grease. My axles are actually still good at 170,000 miles, but the boots are shot. I do have a 3" lifted truck, so I'm sure that exacerbated the problem.

I just had to get ones a few months ago. I bought refurbished oem ones off of eBay for like 120 dollars. They look good and there were repainted and stuff. The boot looks new on mine. I had the frame recall done at Toyota about 3 months ago and they put them in at no cost. The work great. From what I read online the aftermarket ones sometimes gets shipping damage on threads. (Damaged threads usually means no good)

I think this is the route I'm going to go, my only worry is damaging something during the process. Mine have 150k miles, no clicking. I'll order 2 pairs of boots and just replace the broken boots for now. I'll update as to how it goes. I really appreciate all the input here, thanks to all!
