Looking for suggestions. In Canada they don't sell the double cab in off-road guise. Consequently I ended up with a double cab sport, but plan on doing lots of offroading and would like a locking rear diff. Is there a particular aftermarket locker that is not too expensive but performs well? Any particular brand I should stay away from? I understand you get what you pay for but am wondering if there in any brand that people recommend from a value/quality perspective.

    Thanks.

from what I understand, ARB is rock solid. Albeit expensive but good.

I have also read the ARB is good. Am I better off with an air locker or non-air locker? Looking for something durable. Don't need cutting edge performance.

I've used ARB in the past and I found them to be quite excellent. Plus there's the added bonus that you've also added an air compressor to your truck. Can't speak to any other locker system personally.

Fair point regarding the compressor. How do you like your 6MT by the way. That is what I ordered. Supposed to be here next week.

ARB is the only product I would put on a Toyota for selectable locker, especially a new taco.

Sucks OR's dont come double cab short box in Canada :( Damn Americans get all the good stuff.

OK. Good to know. Best place in Calgary for install? I assume not easy to install for a virtual noob like me...

I don't know any driveline shops in Calgary anymore. My dealership isn't keen on installing stuff like that on warranty models either.

A buddy over at the GearShop just installed one on his maybe they can help you in the right direction.

You need a many specialty tools and experience to do a ARB locker, you also will need onboard air, it all adds up quick.

I would suggest starting with a good set of tires and lift first before going too crazy.

It's excellent. Crossed 1600 miles earlier today. Throws aren't all that long (for a truck) and engagement is good. Clutch feel could probably be a little better, but again, truck. Don't expect Honda and you'll be fine. Gear spacing is good although I'd like to see sixth just a little longer.

I went with the Harrop E Locker and love mine. Always has engaged and worked great. I was considering ARB at first and read many people were having issues at the time when i was shopping with seals leaking and diff oil coming back after multiple attempts to get them fixed. i've since read they fixed the issue however.

You must have an automatic transmission. For those of us who own the third gen with manuals (non-OR), we don't have many options as we have an 8.75" rear diff and apparently only ARB covers that config.

Correct. With the 8.75 diff there is only a front e-locker aftermarket option and ARB air locker option for both front and rear. Wish there was a Detroit Truetrac LSD option for the 8.75. Get the benefits of locking diff with on/off road driving.

ARB and Harrop are pretty much the only options.

ARB is an air locker and Harrop is an elocker, you are going to have to shell out some coin for either. The ARB is less expensive but requires OBA which is an added expense.

Airlines can leak, compressors can fail, etc it happens, I've seen it. I have also seen an ARB carrier break.

Harrop is electronic and fairly fool proof, you can jump a E-locker as well if there is a power failure, they recently updated their design related to the bearings and the unlock on rollback.

I had to buy an access cab back then, 2017 we got the double cab short box OR finally.

We still have the manual access cab but no one buys them.
