I was planning on getting the OEM muffler for my 2002 Tacoma but Im having second thoughts because of the price. The OEM would be close to 500.00
I can get a Bosal from RockAuto shipped for around 150.00
Would I be making a mistake with the Bosal ?
    Opinions and suggestions please.
    Thanks

My local muffler shop will charge 65 for a new muffler installed. 165 if I wanted all new pipes and muffler. From my research bosal is the same as OEM.

Sounds like it might be worth my time to look into.
    Thanks.

BTW - I just did the muffler and sold my old flowmaster for 30 dollars.

I use Walker Exhaust on all my vehicles with the free Shipping Amazon has by far been the cheapest.

** I always look up my own Part numbers

    All sounds like great advice.
I will consider more options now.
    Thanks

I used a walker sound fx from rockauto, it was less than 30bucks. Truck is whisper quiet and it was cheap which were my two requirements. My truck isnt a dd though so i have no idea about longevity of the muffler. They also sell the piper from the cat back to muffler as well for pretty cheap, i also used that.

Just put a magnaflow on my 02 ext cab and absolutely love it. It's got a super deep sound but is just barely louder than stock. It's very similar to stock as far as tone. But also a little louder.

    I went with a FlowMaster 40 on my 3.4L
Tho' a Magnaflow would've been quieter I'll suppose.

3.4L sounds good with the FM40 tho'
'cause I prefer to hear the exhuast note.

Cost less then $ 100.00 installed.

Maybe not purdy for the eyes...
But it works well and has held up damn fine.

    Think I paid about

    $ 55.00 for the Flowmaster 40

$ 10.00 for the 2.5" failed scrape tail pipe (from an install shop)

$ 20.00 gift certificate and a 12 pak of bud to a friend for the welding.
'cuz I didn't have my own welder then.

I had my friend weld up the FM40 vertical for reduced impact/friction.
The tail pipe was positioned and welded in place to arch over the axle.

The muffler mounts and tailpipe mounts were altered slightly.
But have stood the test of time.
Rust is not an issue here in the SW.

It's been on my rig since 2003 and has no leaks or rust thru.
And has been hammered on thru many trails here in SoCal/Moab.

I think it was well worth my low buck investment.

    TIG welded

I have and know how to use my 220 MIG welder now
and could do my own welding and replacement.
But I haven't needed to as of 2016

But if that day comes... It'll likely cost me even less ;)

It looks like you did an excellent job.
Thanks again for all the help.
I decided not to go OEM but rather ordered a one piece Bosal from RockAuto.
It should be here within the next couple of days.
I also ordered two idler pulleys that are making a little noise and are loose as well as all three new belts.
All these parts should quiet it down so I can hear the engine better.
    Thanks

I had a Bosal for a while; the baffling came undone inside the muffler and was making a raspy sound. I replaced it with a Dynomax. A very subtle increase in tone, hopefully no baffling issues down the road.

    Too few to list.
I believe Walker or Bosal was the oem supplier. I found the Dynomax Super Turbo closest to stock sound with very good quality. My cousin has this on his Tacoma for 9 years now and no issues. Tone has been the same.

I replaced my muffler and midpipe with walker stuff, including muffler clamps and new donuts for under 200$. Quiet as stock and easy install. I didn’t want to go to muffler shop as all they want to do is weld and I wanted to keep the it replaceable by me.

I've had both Walker and Bosal on my 2.7. The Walker was cheaper and didn't last that long. The Bosal looks better in quality and has so far outlasted the Walker. Both have been OEM quiet. I think the Dynomax will be my next purchase.
