Aftermarket oil filler tubes?

Does anyone know of an aftermarket oil fill tube for a gen 3 that would fill from a more vertical position? The stock one faces forward about 45 degrees and is a pain to fill IMHO. seems like there should be a vertical fill solution out there somewhere.

If you don’t have it already, I’d suggest buying the Motiv-X oil change tool kit which makes that a non issue in my opinion. Gives you a funnel that threads into the filler and makes it easy to pour in the oil.

I have not seen any aftermarket different tubes but I also haven’t looked for them.

 

Not an aftermarket tube, but Toyota makes one that does not point towards the front of the vehicle. It can be found in the Duel Battery threads as it gets the filler tube out of the way of the larger batteries. Someone may be by to give a direct link to those threads. The only thing I can add is cutting out the baffle of the new tube as proposed in those threads is not necessary. This engine is used in other vehicles and the configuration changes a bit from vehicle to vehicle. I have the new tube but do not remember from where I purchased it, so I cannot easily look up the number. The replacement Toyota tube still tilts towards the driver's side of the vehicle.

The advice to get the Motive Kit is spot on. It has the filter drain, funnel, and the filter wrench. All of which I now have but bought separately - dumb me.

 

Buy a funnel a great deal cheaper than an aftermarket fill tube. This style works great….

The problem with the vertical tubes is if you pour too quickly, the oil will burp and spit onto engine, hoot and even fender.

 

I use the Lisle funnel with the 45 degree elbow and the Toyota adaptor. Works great and the caps on the funnel keep it clean between uses.

That's really nice but $115? Man. If I was a pro I might look into this for sure.

I use the Motiv or the knock off they have on Amazon. I dump a 5L jug and it takes the WHOLE thing quickly, no problem.

I Love the MotiveX filter wrench and the filter drainy thing is cool but the first time I tried to use the funnel that came in the kit I wanted to throw it away. The way it sits when screwed in to the tacoma's oil filler is not vertical, it's closer to 45*. When I poured the oil out of my 5qt jug at a speed one would think is fine with such a big funnel I spilt oil down on the engine. Because the angle the oil doesn't pool in the funnel like if it was truly vertical and go down into the engine oil filler tube, instead so can easily run out over what should be the rim that's sort of facing somewhat downward toward the front of the truck. After cleaning that up I went back to my Harbor Freight Funnel.
If MotivX would have included the extra bit like the one @zonzin posted a pic of to make it sit right I'd be able to take back saying the motivX funnel was garbage.

 

You don't need the angled tip. It likely constricts the flow, so I don't see how it would be better than the straight screw-in funnels.

 

Can’t say I’ve had any issues at all, but the oil I choose comes in quart bottles. If I dumped in a 5 quart too fast I could see how it could get out of hand. With quart bottles I just dump the bottle into the funnel and let it go while I unscrew the next one.

 

I have the MotivX kit…..it works extremely well. No issues with over flows. I do use the 5 quart jug, ya just have to use a bit of patience.

Maybe that is my issue. The oil I get at Wally World is much cheaper to acquire in the 5Qt than singles. Plus I usually have to buy 2 -5ers because they don't have single quarts of 0w20 on the shelf in the brand I picked to get me to 6 quarts.

Those 5qt jugs are much bigger and harder to pour from with the truck on ramps too. The wide funnel I got from HF gets the job done with not a drop spilled for me.

 

X2. The funnel in that kit doesn’t prevent a mess, it just makes a new one. If anyone wants mine, they can have it..but no I won’t ship it to you for free, I already paid for the stupid thing once.

I guess I can see this happening. As long as you don't pour it to the point that is starts to actually fill the cone part it works great. The 5L jugs I use have a smaller opening so that never happens but if you have the larger opening it certainly could overfill the cone and quickly make a big mess.

With that being said that other one the guy posted that one that says it's only for Hondas. It has the smaller screw in opening and several people commented that you have to hold it in place which kinda defeats the purpose. That expensive Lisle kit does it right. A short piece you attach to the oil opening, then the 45* then attach the cone. I think the perfect setup would be one piece that short enough to not get caught on anything while you screw it on, then screw on the cone. Of course the screw on piece has to be threaded correctly so it's final resting place would be straight up. Sounds like an easy thing to make for a 3D printer.

But these are 1st world problems, bantered about daily here on TW.
