It was still under the CPO powertrain warranty... the dealer didn't seem to hesitate at all when we brought it in. Although they do know we have bought quite a bit from them.

Mine squeaks & I use wd40. It helps some. I installed bed stiffeners hoping it’s not because it’s out of square :notsure:

Sadly this is one of those things that nobody learns until it's too late. I've never owned a vehicle prior to this that the fuel door requires routine maintenance. I don't think it's mentioned in the manual.
It's not. I've had bed stiffeners since day one and mine still failed.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Can't fathom how this would have any impact (good or bad) on the fuel door hinge. The most sensible solution started many months ago - it's called lubrication.

    Lubricate this?

Oh well I probably opened it too wide at one point which misaligned the door and caused contact on the bottom left portion of the door.

I drilled out the rivets and installed m5 rivnuts. Just waiting to get a new fuel door.

WD 40 is not a lubricant. It displaces water, a lubricant is still needed. I use Lubriplate FMO 350AW lubricant. It's a very light grease used for chains on food machinery. You can actually use any light grease or machine oil. Gun oil if you have it is fine.

On my Tundra, the tech always lubed the hinge on the fuel door along with the door hinges. I don't know if that was something that just that dealer does, but it certainly didn't hurt anything.

Looks like @Nu2taco missed the "lube" part of lube, oil, & filter. The dealers in my area spray all the door hinges and latches with white lithium grease when doing oil changes.

I did read post #9. The chafing is caused by the hinge rod being bent. The hinge rod was bent because of lack of lubrication.

    Ok mr butterfly effect
It broke because its a stupid design
It needs lubrication because its a stupid design
Toyota wont back it up because people are justifying their stupid design
See what i did there? ;)

Shrug. The dealer lube techs do it as standard line item during oil changes. Part of basic maintenance. You gotta lubricate all the door hinges anyway or they'll wear out after a few years:

Must live up north in the rust belt. Down here we use bailing wire instead of plastic.
