    Interesting......

My fuel door is from 2006, still working without issue. Although, I should place a few drops of 3in1 oil on the hinges. Not creaking or squeaking, just regular maintenance.

I wonder if regular maintenance is a key......:boink:

Where do you draw the line at regular maintenance? Out of the hundreds of thousands of Tacomas out there I would wager a bet that under .1% of people have ever lubed their fuel door. There is nothing “regular” about that.

If it pivots or rotates or slides or move......then it needs maintenance. Even just to check for proper function.

I was raised on a row crop farm in central Iowa. Our lively hood depended on machinery. The machinery was no good broken down in the field or sitting in the shed. Several key seasons for machinery to be at peak operation, planting and harvesting season. I learned many many years ago to take care of equipment.

Sure, the fuel door doesn't fall under the category most would consider as regular maintenance. Even so, it needs care.

Regular maintenance can be as simple as cleaning the windshield at each fill, or checking tire pressure, or checking oil level, or vacuuming the interior, or tossing the garbage out of the cab........I assume you get the idea....

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Do you really believe ISIS is buying vehicles or even doing more than just dumping fuel in the tank........?

Thinking can be a challenging skill.

So, you're standing by your statement that mechanical devices that have moving parts will from time to time need lubrication?
And if not lubricated, dry mechanical parts will squeak, stick, bind and just generally not operate in the manner as designed?
And ignoring the signs leads to part failure?

    But that seems so...reasonable.

Seen a lot about these fuel doors lately. I haven't noticed mine feeling "flimsy" or having any issues...maybe I am lucky.

I wouldn't mind seeing a quality aftermarket locking door, though.

I would absolutely amazed if an ISIS member gave two shits about the fuel filler door falling off. Lol.

Not so sure on the "Locking" type. But an inside release would serve quite well.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
No one would give two shits about fuel door, vibrations, transmission or anything else if this came as an option...

Just searched and found this thread. Made me want to scratch my eyes out as i read through it.
Im 53. I have owned and maintained numerous vehicles in my life, and never once have I had a vehicle with such a shitty fuel door, and I love my truck and Toyotas so I'm not bashing here.
Mind you, I have owned some pretty shitty scrapped together cars too.
Know how many of those I have actually lubed the gas door on? ZERO. Never needed it. you opened the door, put gas in and closed it.
If you design something like a gas door that needs lubing, you should re-think its design.

and please don't come back with some stupid false equivalency of "eNgIneS nEeD lUbE"
you know that's stupid, so spare me.
