So, I got crunched while parked by a tractor trailer trying to back into the dock at work. The shit head stuck the piece he ripped off my bumper back on and didn't report it. Took off the whole right half.
Anyway, my insurance will pay for the whole thing. I'm thinking of upgrading to a REAL bumper. I want steel, but not something that looks like one from a Mad Max movie. Any ideas? TIA.

The plastic bumper covers are pulled away from the metal bumper?
Or the plastic bumper covers and metal bumper are pulled away from the truck?

Everyone makes a steel bumper and only a few make an aluminum bumper. You have to narrow it down further, otherwise all you will get is people saying the bumper they bought is the best thing since sliced bread.

Do you want to retain the stock trailer receiver or would you like to gain ground clearance with a hidden receiver?

Do you want to protect the bedsides?

Do you want to retain blind spot monitoring?

    License plate mount?

    Lights?

Keep stock receiver, no park assist or BSM. Want to keep the plate there.

Tore off the whole plastic end, bent the metal under the plastic and broke the tail light.

Just to let you guys know, I am not a "mall crawler" or serious off roader . I was back in the day. I'd go anywhere in my '80 4x4. The '87 as well. Thanks for all the input. We'll see what the payout is, and I'll make a decision.

    Update.
Insurance co. quoted $1027.86 for the repair with recycled parts!
I hate that farm. They charged me a $500 deductible for getting hit while parked! WTF!!
    I can't buy a bumper for $500.
Parts on Rock Auto are $244 so I'll be replacing the plastic shit myself.
Thanks for all your input anyway.

I never understood the point of a rear bumper Like the ones posted on here.
I get those that offer better clearance, or a swing out….but jeez, you guys paying $1000 or more for a “stockish” metal bumper that looks worse than stock? And all that weight over your rear? Doesn’t make sense to me.

can some one pretty please explain to me what the point is?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. If you do ever decide to look for an aftermarket bumper, I would suggest seeing who makes things local to you. You might find a better deal and less cost for shipping a heavy steel bumper across the continent.

I like my "Body Armour" steel bumper, but it rusted real fast. Had to sand & paint to fix it, but happy I have one back there. Mall Crawling is the worst!

The reason I will either build or buy a bumper is because of a**holes who do this! This was done in the parking lot at work by a professional driver. Never left a note or anything.

I park my truck in the back corners of parking lots, far-away from other people, and still they cause damage with no care in the world. A metal bumper will make sure they suffer more for thier own actions while all I will need is a little spray paint!
