I recently bought a 2109 SR5 used, and love it. But it came with just one key. I’m still shaking my head at sticker shock - dealer wants almost $450 for a replacement key and programming.

I see blanks for sale on eBay, and I imaging getting it cut is a matter of finding the right lock shop, but the programming? Are there online stores/hacks/apps for DIY?

    thanks

    Rick

Which key/key fob do you have? is it an H key stamped on it? Local locksmith might be able to provide a replacement and program it for far cheaper than dealer.
Also Toms Key, some here have used this service.

2nd gen forum have bought a cheap H key off Amazon or ebay and a cheap programmer not sure if it would work for 3rd gen.

as the other user said Tom's Key is a good solution. I actually just made a spare key a couple days ago with Tom's Key. The only problem was i got rejected by two lock shops to cut the key. they said they dont do work on "internet keys" because sometimes the aftermarket keys stop working and the customers blame the lock shop. I did find a lock shop that would cut it. total cost was just a little over $100. pretty easy. also, maybe make two spares while youre at it. might as well save $40 if you end up losing another key.

Tomskey programmed my push start key fob for a 2021 OR without issue. It did not work on the Lexus credit card key.

I have a 2021 with the “H” stamped on the key and bought a key on eBay and then used tom’s keys service to program it. After that, all I did was go to the local locksmith I’ve used in the past and $5 dollars later I walked out with my new cut key. All in all, I think I spent about $100 total. If you don’t mind spending a little more, you can purchase the key from tom’s key when you rent their tool.
