Aftermarket Sport Hood replacement

Has anyone purchased a aftermarket sport hood from ebay or elsewhere? If so did everything work out like you thought it would? Thinking of purchasing a sport hood from ebay but Im worried about quality and alignment.

 

I know someone has done this.

 

I'm actually looking for a hood myself because my hood has seen a few to many rocks and I want to get one with a hood scoop because I like the look. I found this website that have everything on sale. Not sure if anyone on here has used this site but if they have I'm interested in hearing some reviews.

I just ordered one off of eBay so I guess I'll be the guinea pig...

I had a garage shelving epic fail that dumped about 300lbs of random crap on my hood in the middle of the night, so my current hood is basically ruined.

I haven't received the new hood yet, so no telling if it's good or if I just wasted my money. I'll post back here in the next few weeks once it arrives and I get it installed.

Just to be clear, I ordered a scooped hood (Martin's Hood; Part Numbers: 5330104210, TO1230223; eBay link) & the scoop insert (with all seals & hardware; eBay link) for around $325 total. Then add ~$200 for getting the hood painted and it'll be around $525 total. I plan on plastidip-ing the scoop insert, so no paint costs there. All said and done, that's about 1/3 what the stealership quoted me for a non-scooped hood.

 

Non-OEM is always a crap shoot. Hope it all works out for you.

They come up for sale here pretty regularly. If you're in no rush keep checking, maybe one will pop up in your color. Do you have a salvage yard by you? If you buy aftermarket you're obviously going to have to paint it, I'd rather buy used OEM regardless of color and paint that. Then at least you'll know it will fit correctly, and you'll have the bonus of the insert and all gaskets/seals/hood bumpers.

 

Most want the "Sport" look but don't want to spend the $$ for the proper Scoop. You just might get what you paid for, good luck

 

I got the hood in. It's a great fit and the OEM Toyota scoop insert fit nice and snug.



It had a few bent edges from shipping (drivers front corner and front lip next to grill on passenger side) but the damage was really pretty minimal for LTL truck freight. I was able to bend everything back into place by hand and now everything lines up nicely.

I transfered all of the gaskets, bumpers / spacers, and washer fluid nozzles / clips from the old hood to the new and it all fit perfectly. The big bumpers screw out, everything else has those pesky clips, but I've got a decent set of interior panel clip tools that made the clips pretty simple to get out without breaking.

Now to get it painted and I'm done!!!
