Been lurking a while and finally have a question. For those who have replaced their stock stereo with aftermarket, how do you manage the settings originally controlled by the stock headunit? I'm talking about all doors unlocking with one click and how long internal lights stay on; that kind of stuff.

I just went to a 2018 Sport from a 2008 OffRoad (had to get an automatic due to a chronic foot injury) and man, I'm digging this third gen. I had apple carplay with my previous aftermarket stereo and really got used it. Since there were no vehicle-connected settings, it was no big deal to switch. I'm wary of replacing the headunit in this new truck because of all the settings it controls. Is there another way to manage those settings if I get an aftermarket headunit?
This stock stereo looks nicer than any other I've gotten in a new vehicle and I would keep it if I could get apple carplay. I looked into the beatsonic but their website says it doesn't work with a non-JBL headunit. All the mirroring devices I've seen on Amazon seem to work only with android based stereos. From what I've gathered, I simply can't get carplay with this stock headunit and will have to switch if I want it

I've been poking around stereo posts for a week and didn't see other threads on settings controlled by the stock headunit. If there are any, please point me in that direction.

Oh, thanks. I read about some guy who got malware from a janky download site. Is there a "safe" place to get it?
