Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket TPMS sensors? Or a good source for oem one?

Im buying new wheels and tires and thinking it would be ideal to be able to just sell my OR wheels as a set ready to go with tires and tpms mounted.

Tirerack seems like it could be a fairly reliable / good option?

    Thanks

I bought a set from Tire Rack and they are identical to the ones from a dealer.

If you get new sensors, you will need to have the new sensor I.D. numbers programmed into the truck's computer. If you reuse your old sensors, you'll avoid that step.

I've got the Schrader ez-sensor 33500 from Kal-Tire. Worked great all summer. You can get the shop to clone the IDs so summer/winter sets will both work. I do wish Toyota would add room for 2 sets of tires in the ECU.

I’ve had good luck with VDO brand. Not in a Tacoma, but it’s a good brand.

They relearned using the other cars relearn procedure. I’m sure Tacoma’s have a relearn procedure too.

I bought a single for 5th spare from Discount Tire about 5 months ago. Put it in rotation and it’s been fine so far.

I recently got a new set of wheels and tires from Tire Rack with 4 new tpms, when I took my truck to les schwab after installing my lift they told me that they would have to dismount all tires to get the sensors to read. Is this complete bullshit? I was under the impression that there was a tool that could scan the sensors and get the truck to read them..Ill be taking it to tire rack to try soon but its over an hour away. Anybody have any input on this?

There is a tool that will read the sensor ID's. It's a hand held tool that you point at the valve stem - no need to dismount.

Once you have the ID numbers of the new sensors, they need to be programmed into the truck's ECU using a tool that plugs into the OBD2 port under your dash.
