Had the same problem, eventually after driving with the grill enough the sensor must have recalibrated. Haven't had a sensor trip issue in over a month. I've driven in rain, dirt, and it still works.

You can also hold in the cruise button for a few seconds and it defaults to standard, not radar assisted cruise. So you can workaround the cruise being mad due to the sensor.

I did a 3/1 lift with a little bigger tire, factory sport grill and never an issue. I added a oem oem pro grill and garnish and again never an issue. You might have something else going on.

I have an aftermarket pro grill and OEM garnish on my 2019. I had to file down some of the plastic to get the garnish to fit. The grill itself fits perfectly. Everything was fine for two days, but now I got a warning that "the sensor is dirty and is shut down" It's not dirty and appears to be fully seated. I will check further and see if the problem continues. If the position is a problem, I'll go back to stock. I like the look of the pro grill, but I don't like it enough to live with the error light or to spend 250. on an OEM grill.

Make sure the truck is off when you disconnect connectors or it will throw a code that will need to be cleared. That goes for pretty much any connector on any new Toyota.

I just bought a 2019 TRD Sport and will be buying an aftermarket pro grille shortly. I hate chrome....

Why would anyone leave their truck running while working on the grill?

It’s probably not the grill. Do you have a knock-off garnish? That’s more than likely the culprit and why they are jacking up the price on OEM garnishes exponentially.

Also, it might just be the TSS recalibrating itself. Leave it alone for a few days and see if it does. I’ve heard of that happening too...

not running, even IG on, so they can listen to the radio while working on it... I've seen it and have had to clear the codes...

That's going to be a crap shoot w/ aftermarket grills. The OEM grill holds the TSS radar at a specific height and a specific angle. If the aftermarket grill holds those angles, the TSS will perform as intended. If it doesn't, the TSS will throw a code and shut down. There are many remedies, but all presume you can guess what's wrong.

Is the grill making the TSS sensor point up at the sky? Shim the bottom of the sensor so it points straight ahead.

RADAR is exactly like a headlight. It works almost exactly the same way, just a different frequency that you can't see. Not being able to see the beam is a problem, but I've seen people eyeball a headlight replacement on a car with no power, and pretty much nail the alignment.

Edit: the Pro has the sensor lower on the grill. It would be reasonable to compensate for that by adding a .005 shim between the top/front of the sensor and the Pro grill to move the beam up a little. Otherwise, you could get excessive noise from potholes and armadillos. TSS throws a code, the "PCS OFF" light comes on.

No, it's a Toyota garnish. It's been two weeks, It throws the "clean sensor" after a few miles every time. I'll just switch back to the stock grill, It's not that important to me. After 40 years I should know that 99% of aftermarket products are junk.

    Are you sure it’s OEM?

If you do it right, no issues with TSS and aftermarket grill.

Pretty sure even OEM is manufactured in China. Most likely every high end piece of technology you own too.

Yeah, I'm sure. It came in the Toyota box, from a reputable vendor.

The knock offs come in assort d boxes. The real ones (OEM) come wrapped in paper. There’s a thread detailing how to tell them apart. I’ll see if I can find it and tag you...

One thing I learned in that video other than the guy doesn't know his fasteners: When swapin' you re-use the sensor. But it's lower. I can't imagine that causing a huge issue.

I have a 2019 Limited and added the Pro grille. I did replace everything with factory parts, grille, garnish, fasteners and the TSS wire, which clips into the Pro grill correctly. No problems with the sensor.

Successfully moved TRD Pro Grille from 2017 TRD Sport (pre-TSS) to 2019 TRD Sport.

    0. Picked up new 2019 TRD Sport from dealership. Tested adaptive cruise control, lane departure, was not very impressed.

    1. After installing TRD Pro Grille with garnish, "Clean Sensor" message shows up periodically, cleared with ignition restarts.

    2. Brought truck to dealership for 1st re-calibration (with TRD Pro Grille), it wasn't easy as the tech revealed but they were able to calibrate after almost 4 hours. Although calibrated, adaptive cruise control misbehaved:
    a. applying brake unexpectedly even when there was no vehicle in front
    b. did not apply brake when traffic in front slowed down

    3. Brought truck to dealership for 2nd re-calibration (with TRD Pro Grille), they spent 6 hrs and could not recalibrate. Ended up refunding my 1st re-calibration and left the TRD Pro Grille on when I signed an agreement. Resulted in "Pre-collision sensor malfunction", "Cruise control unavailable", "visit dealership" messages.

    4. Brought truck to dealership for 3rd re-calibration (with stock TRD Sport Grille). Calibrated as expected. TSS, lane departure, adaptive cruise control worked way better than "0" above.

    5. Removed stock TRD Sport Grille, installed TRD Pro Grille with TSS sensor and garnish. No error code since.
